this is a little mods "Realistic Faction Name - RFN"

I am start to change all faction to their own language country.

french folks dont call French empire,its "Empire Français"



But,need help to correct to all (??)..here is Realistic Faction Name List :

Hey! I'm doing exactly the same in my mod! I have also renammed cities and region. Perhaps we can exchange to help fitting some names? For instance, I don't know if I should name the cities in Ireland / Scotland with the English name, or in Gaelic.

Here are the difference with my own list:

- Crimean Khanate = Qirim Yurtu
- Sicily = Regno di Sicilia
- Hungary = Kiralyi Magyarorszag
- Catalonia = Catalunya
- Ottoman Empire = Osmanli Devleti
- Courland = Kurland
- Papal states = Status Pontificus
- Scotland = Rìoghachd na h-Alba (I'm using gaelic, scot seems to be more widespread... which one should I use?)
- Hessen= Kurfürstentum Hessen
- Britain = U.K. of Great Britain ("United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland" doesn't fit on the screen )
- Greece = Elliniki Politeoia (since the first republic was established in 1823, and the kingdom only in 1832)
- Poland = Ksiestwo Warszawskie

- Savoy = Difficult... Not Royaume de Savoie, as it has never been a kingdom. Ducato di Savoia is also wrong, since the people in Savoy proper were French speaking more than Italian (that's one fo the reason why the people felt "betrayed" by the dukes when they move to Torino and started speaking Italians). After the Duchy of Savoy, the name was Kingdom of Sardinia (not even Piemont), which doubles with another faction...

Here is a possible solution: why not use the name in Arpitan, the old Dialect from the area Ducato di Savouè

@steph..Hmm,sometime we must ignore the offical name,list to the folks,that always call their own language,British folks would not says "lets fight for U.K. of Great Britain,popular name is Bristish Empire,therefor choose i with British Empire,

Not sure about Osmanli Devleti and Rìoghachd na h-Alba...the ukrainer tartar would never call Qirim Yurtu,its turkish speak,Elliniki Politeoia,not sure either.

Regno di Sicilia is a italian speak,but the sicilian dont talk italy,the most people there speak still latin.Status Pontificus,on latin is Stato Pontificio.

the latvian folks call Kurzeme,not with kurland,its a german speak.

u should take the irish own speak on their own city,too scottish and all city ,do u wirite danish city with København?

Yes, it's Kobenhavn (don't know how to do the strange O here).

The question sometime is "how was the city/region" named at the time.

For example, Kurland. In 1800, was it with a German speaker majority of Latvian? Both were "official" language of the Duchy of Courland.

Same for Scotland. Should we use Scots (1.5 million speakers today) or Gaelic (58,000 speakers). Was the situation the same in 1800?

I'm not sure about using only the name used by the people versus the official name (since on the diplomacy screen, or when selecting your nation, you are not a simple soldiers but a head of state or general).

For the Crimean Khanate, I agree that perhaps name in Ukrainian may be better.

For Naples, people would speak Neapolitan, not Latin.

Stato Pontificio is Italian. Status Pontificius is latin.


So, for Scottish cities I would have:
- Edinburgh = Edinburra (scot) or Dùn Èideann (Gaelic)
- Glasgow = Glesga (scot) or Glaschu (Gaelic)
Name of region is Scotland (Scot) or Alba (Gaelic). Gaelic has more flavour, but may be to different.

And for Irish cities
- Dublin = Baile Átha Cliath
- Cork = Corcaigh
- Waterford = Port Láirge

Oh, by the way, Duché de Bretagne should be Dukelezh Breizh

I like the idea - but assuming you are starting in 1805 - Bavaria, Wurttemberg & Saxony were Electorates. Bavaria & Wurttemberg were promoted to the status of Kingdoms, for their support of Napoleon in 1805, after Austerlitz. Saxony was promoted to a Kingdom on 11 December 1806. Hesse- Kassel was an Electorate (promoted in 1803), Hesse-Darmstadt was a Landgrave until 1806 when its ruler was promoted to Elector. And of course Westphalia did come into being until after Tilsit in 1807.

If not, then it should use the name it uses from 1806 to 1812 (6 years of game) instead of just the name of 1805 (1 year of game)

Hannover in 1805 was ruled by France so no Elector - it was occupied after the breakdown of the Peace of Amiens.

Baden & Wurttemburg were separate in Napoleonic times - and remained so until post World War 2.

Baden was ruled by a Margrave, who became a Grand Duke in 1806.

As I said previously the Kingdom of Westphalia did not exist in 1805 - it was brought into existence post Tilsit in December 1807. It was composed of parts of Hannover, Brunswick, Saxony & most of Hesse-Kassel. Its capital was Kassel. Please note that the Kingdom had no relation to the territory of the Duchy of Westphalia that the Archbishopric of Cologne administered until 1803 when part went to Prussia & the greater part went to Hesse-Darmstadt.

You shoukd use: Regno di Napoli & Regno di Sicilia

Well Hannover become Kingdom after the defeat of Napoleon, before Napoleon captured Hannover it was the "Kurfürstentum" but most of the people (even today) said "Kurhannover", so it is your decision if you make it a kingdom or electorate...
