What do I do?

I got a guide telling me what to do, and a fix that doesn't make any sense if you're using steam, without an explanation of why exactly it is needed.

I honestly can't find out which is outdated or not and whether any of this affects version 2.1a

...and of course there's no warning telling you what update does. Apparently it didn't do anything bad, still confused about its purpose.

Can't I also still play MP with the SP files if my friend is using them as well? Can't say I enjoy some of the changes in the MP EDU such as 242 cav a unit.

EDIT: Nvm, I got exiting CTDs now yay, time to reinstall RS. Someone answer the previous question please, my friend and I will most likely end up doing that.
