Default What new IH are you most interested in?

Hi guys, I've been extremely busy the past few weeks (Christmas and all) but now that I have finally found some free time, I'd like to get a new IH up. I've got three possibilities worked out in my head, and I want to know which one you guys are most interested in (info's in the spoilers):

    1. War of the Three Kingdoms
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Exactly what it says on the tin - a British IH starting on either August 22nd, 1642 or January 1st, 1643, while the outcome of the 'Wars of the Three Kingdoms' was still seriously in doubt. Like the ancient RCW IH, each faction will consist of one 'Leader' and two Lieutenants, and each player will have to carefully coordinate an overall war strategy; generally I expect the Leader to think up the actual strategy and the Lieutenants to carry them out after talking it over with him, but there's nothing stopping the Leader from going into the fray himself.

This will be an action-filled IH; peace is temporary, any alliance is fragile, and coexistence impossible.

Four factions, each with one Leader and two Lieutenants:

Royalists - Leader: King Charles I - Lieutenants: Prince Rupert of the Rhine, Duke of Newcastle
Parliamentarians - Leader: Duke of Essex - Lieutenants: Lord Fairfax, Oliver Cromwell
Irish Confederacy - Leader: Owen Roe O'Neill - Lieutenants: Garret Barry, Thomas Preston
Scottish Covenant - Leader: Marquess of Argyll - Lieutenants: Alexander Leslie, David Leslie

You can raise troops with speeches & posters like in WEF.
    2. WEF 1936:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Exactly what it says on the tin, this is WEF fast-forwarded from 1920 to 1936 with more alternate history in the background.
    3. The Crowned Eagle and the Raised Fist:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A mix of both scenarios. It's the year 1933, and the United Kingdom of America has fallen into civil war for the second time in its history; as the Great Depression ruins (and in some cases, ends) millions of lives, popular fury with the established conservative politicians and interests that ran the UKA since its formation is stoked to boiling point by Communists, socialists, militant trade unionists, anarchists and republicans, and has finally exploded into open revolution.

    Map (open to change):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Blue - Royalist
    Red - Rebel
    Purple - Battleground State
    Brown - Texas
The UKA is divided into two camps, Royalists and Rebels, with a few 'battleground states', where neither side dominates and 'civil wars within a civil war' are fought to exterminate the opposition. Crazy KKK! Texas will also feature as an NPC hostile to both, intent on grabbing as much land as it can before the dust settles.

Both sides have some starting advantages and disadvantages, outlined below...

    Royalists:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Advantages: Politically unified (everyone obviously has to be for the monarchy); all territory is connected

Disadvantages: Less resources & population under its control than the Rebels, at least at game start; will have more problems trying to rally soldiers to the cause than the Rebels, as many Americans have lost confidence in the Monarchy
    Rebels:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Advantages: Start out with greater resources than the Royalists + will have the heavily industrialized areas under its thumb at game start; will have an easier time rallying support as a lot of people have lost faith in the monarchy

Disadvantages: Severely divided along ideological lines, so some degree of infighting (from just a lot of yelling at each other, to pulling 'Uriah gambits' with each other's men, to open war) will not be uncommon, if not inevitable; territory is disconnected, making it difficult to properly coordinate attacks or bail each other out when needed
Players would take on the role of a character like in the other WEFs. If you're a Royalist, you'll need to set up a Headquarters thread; if you're a Rebel, you'll need to put up a Political Movement thread instead, both in the Diplo forum. These threads will function as diplomacy threads where you can conduct diplomacy (duh) and keep track of your econ & the troops under your command.

If you are a Rebel, the Political Movement threads also serve an additional purpose - they will outline your ideology, and since the Rebel movement is a massive alliance of convenience involving Commies, socialists, anarchists, liberal republicans and anti-monarchy conservatives, I'm expecting at least some friction between the movements (maybe not Stalinists VS. other leftists like in the SCW, but for this IH, some examples would be - Bolsheviks VS. Social Democrats VS. Anarchists, Socialists VS. Liberal Republicans, Capitalists VS. Communists), if not outright civil wars within a civil war, since you're all also fighting to establish a new order after the Monarchy's gone down - why not try to get rid of some rivals (whether by leaving them to die under Royalist fire or killing them yourself) before it's over? If you're a Royalist, as I've said earlier this won't really be a problem, since you'll be more strongly united by your allegiance to the Monarchy than the Rebels are by their hatred of it.

Also like the proposed WotTR IH or the ACW in WEF, you'll all be military commanders with one Faction Leader for the Royalists and several factions collaborating for the Rebels, so working out an overall strategy that makes sense and then properly executing it will be key. A serious (dare I say crippling) problem for the CS in the WEF ACW was an apparent lack of coordination between the players, you guys worked together just fine at the start but after stuff like Shenandoah Valley it seemed you all just kinda went off and did your own thing without consulting everyone else first. If you make the same mistake here, you're gonna crash and burn very very early on - the danger is greater for the Rebels in this case, since your territory starts out disconnected, which means poor communication skills and a lack of coordination & teamwork (at least before you've secured your territories, after which I guess you could risk some real infighting) will guarantee the rebellion turning out to be an anticlimatic disaster.

Regarding foreigners taking part - this game will be set in the Great Depression, so nobody's really in any shape to actively intervene. At the most, you'll have volunteer International Brigades on both sides, but that's it - and don't expect them to be game-changers or to rely on them too much.

Lastly, yes, you can still use speeches & posters to whip up support for your cause, although like I said the Royalists will have a harder time at it than the Rebels unless they start kicking ass and don't stop for some time. (basically what happened in WEF's ACW as well)

I think we should keep the WEF series going on until we hit the present.

    I quite enjoyed it.

I actually didn't read Eagle and Raised Fist.

I like that the most. I didn't vote for it though.

I don't want my glorious kingdom to fall.

But I would like to keep WEF going. Three kingdoms sounds cool too... But I think WEF will have the most longevity.

When does this poll close? Because Eagle and Raised Fist is in first place with 4 of 9 votes.

As awesome as the concept sounds, I have to express my discontent with Raised Fist. Part of what made the WEF franchise so appealing (at least for me) is that America was a bit of a tabula rasa - we got to decide how the nation developed, we got to decide the direction it went, we got to decide the policies, etc. etc. and then we reaped the rewards and dealt with the consequences. Our WEF civil war occurred because decisions were made by players, not because it was scripted to occur. Even our involvement in the WEF WWI was never a certainty; of course, we inevitably joined because wars are fun, but it was still our choice as to when it happened. I'm afraid I can't support the Raised Fist concept on these grounds

Even though you don't understand communism at all?

I want to take WEF all the way to modern day, I'm going for take 1936.

Well, I think I've kept the thing open long enough, plus we haven't gotten any new votes for a while. Since TETRF & WotTR are tied, I'll roll a die to decide the winner. 1-3 it's TETRF, 4-6 it's WotTR.
    You rolled 1 die:

    Timestamp: 2011-01-03 00:17:52 UTC
The Wars of the Three Kingdoms it is, then.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see this post.

I'll count that as a point for TETRF, since this poll was multi-option anyway.

Please change my vote to "Where Eagles Fly, Take 1936, instead of "The Eagle and the Raised Fist"

Sorry, but even that won't make a difference - as it stands with your vote change we have 5 votes for TCETRF and 4 for the other options (and 1 for the 'Other' option).
