Thread: New Rule: Procedure for rule breaking

Default New Rule: Procedure for rule breaking

Sadly it's very clear that we're going to need to put together some way to punish people for breaking the rules, because currently there are some members who think they can play on the server without caring to read the rules that the community has agreed upon and there's at least one person actively and persistently griefing with TNT traps - and personally if we ever catch that person I would want to have an established method of kicking them off the server for good.

    So:

    Rule Breaking

If it is found any member of the server has broken the rules then a poll will be set up under the normal rules (public voting, three day limit, simple plurality wins). The options will be:

    1) Censure (a good telling off and warning not to do it again)
    2) Two week de-op
    3) Two week ban, two week de-op
    4) Perma ban
    5) Abstain

For obvious reasons the person who is the subject of the vote will not be able to vote in the poll. Before the poll is added the accused will be invited to post a defence.

If somebody is perma banned, then this ban can be reversed any time after a month by another poll.

Anybody who defies a ruling (ie gives OP rights to a punished person) will be considered to be rule breaking themselves.

    Sounds good, voted yes.

There needs to be a standard on how to write and forward a case, too.

Establishing what has actually happened in a dispute is a huge issue, yes. But I can't really imagine how we will solve it. We have some mature people on this server, and some less mature people, and I don't think guidelines will improve their arguments.

The accused should get a chance to make his case. So maybe before voting is enabled, the accused person gets to make a post with his arguments?

    Otherwise seems fine.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
