    Default The "Merry X-mas" Preview

    Merry Christmas

    Intro

    Dear Community,

    a busy year lies behind us.
    A year full of surprises, disappointments on the one hand and great results, on the other hand.
    It was the year of the birth of my second daughter. The year with many professional challenges. And the year of big events in our AoD-team. However. We want to finish the year in devotion.

    For all those who never visited our forum before I recommend to check out the sticked Threads. You will find mod-descriptions, dozens of previews, historical articles and some other stuff.

    AoD2 has a high degree of theological discussions - internal as well as external. This is apparently the result of that time-epoch which is represented by AoD.
    A complicated time span which requires a complicated work out. Precise researches are inalienable. The AoD team has fantastic members and all of them are aware of the task.

    I would like to use the opportunity to thank all my team-members for the last year.

    Have a nice time and merry x-mas
    Pompeius Magnus

    churches
    on topical occasion we show various churches - all of them available in AoD2.

    Note:
    the shown contents are not finished yet and can deviate and vary from the final result - respectively from the finished mod.
    Some screenshots were made in Constantinople (which is still under construction!) - other screenshots were made in several other cities.

    The next churches are well known from vanilla BI, but I gave them several brand new textures which are the result of several weeks of research. This textures reflects the early Byzantine time and its architectural style in general. By the way, all churches and religious buildings of AoD2 have new textures - we show only some of them.

    numerus
    some minutes ago a new empio unit has arrived - known from the famous david plate.

    david plate

    Silver Plate with David and Goliath, 629–630

    This beautiful and exceptionally important plate is the largest of a set of nine showing scenes from the life of the Old Testament king David. Six belong to the Metropolitan Museum while three are in the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia. The group was discovered in 1902 in Karavás (northern Cyprus) sealed with a hoard of jewelry and gold, much of which is also now in the Metropolitan's collection. Originally the smaller plates were arranged around the largest, the one shown here depicting David's combat with Goliath. On the backs of all the plates are the control stamps of the emperor Heraclius, who may have commissioned them to celebrate his victory over the Persians in 628–29, which resulted in the recapture of Jerusalem. During the war, it is said that Heraclius fought the Persian general Razatis in single-handed combat, an event that is perhaps evoked in the depiction of David's defeat of Goliath. Imperial imagery is present also on other plates, where ceremonial scenes from the biblical king's life are set before the arcade of a palace. Their style is a conscious reference to classical art. The plates may have been ordered for display in the banquet hall of a member of the Byzantine aristocracy.

    a great preview indeed pomps, and Aod II is the first rtw mod ever to change the original buildings and enhance them, but thanks to pomps and wundai we can truely enjoy the justinian eras.

    @Jermagon
    many thanx my friend for the kind words. I fear that several other mods also made a texture change of certain models. (just have a look at Chivalry which offers completely new buildings for the middle ages) or have a look at Ramashan's IncaTW. But at least AoD2 is located in the top 5 concerning the new models and textures - that's for sure.

    @Deuscher Kaiser
    vielen Dank Freund

    @Constantius
    many thanx mate. You did so much for AoD2 in the last 12 months. Have a nice christmas with your family and enjoy the time with your new born baby. That's the most important.

    EDIT

    I have added a brand new unit from empio to post #1. The unit arrived some hours ago.

    I thoroughly look forward to this mod pomp. It is probably the most ambitious RTW project currently in development.
