[SOLVED] Game hangs at certain turn

I'm on turn 32 on the Swedish campaign on DM Empire, and when I press 'End Turn', nothing happens other than End Turn and Diplomacy being greyed out. No AI turn, and the game stops responding. What is known to cause this and how can it be fixed?

EDIT: OK, it seems some of my savegames are corrupted. Thankfully I have older ones that work. Golden rule of gaming comes to the rescue once again. But how can I prevent this corruption from happening?

EDIT2: I narrowed it down, and the problem was caused by moving certain 2 units at a certain spot. No idea why or how, but I disbanded the buggers and moved along.

You can't stop the corruption, you unfortunately just have to hope it doesn't happen.
