I haven't had any luck getting the mod to run, but I know that it took me a few tries to get the install to work. If you've downloaded the beta through the link to filehosting.org, you can't just save target as or save link as. You have to click on the link, get an email, click on the link they send you, and save it to a location, otherwise you just wind up saving some weird incomplete .exe file. The installer .exe file should be around 1.79 GB in size and should take a little while to download.

    I hope this helps.

For all those that are having problems with CTDs when starting TAR. I suppose you're getting a CTD after selecting a nation in Grand Campaign option (in game) and then click 'Start'. You will see the loading screen for the campaign map and immediately hear music stuttering and then CTD. I also had this problem. Do the following.

    1. Disable any running anti-virus program. Then run TAR again, this helped for me. Doesn't work? Restart computer. Disable anti-virus. Run TAR. Still does not work, do the following:

    2. Uninstall TAR by clicking on 'Uninstall_TAR.exe' located in ...:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war
    3. Go to ...:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data and make sure no files with 'TAR' in the name are there. Also remove the unit_pack_compatibility pack file just to be sure.
    4. Make sure that the TAR folder is not there anymore. (Used to be ...:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data\TAR). If it still is there: delete it.
    5. Go to ...:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data\campaigns, and make sure that the folders 13C_Main, 1775_Main, 1783_Main, and TAR_IW are gone.
    6. Verify that in the remaining folders in the ...data/campaigns folder do not contain any file with 'TAR' in its name. (For instance scripting.TAR or startpos.TAR)
    7. Go to C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts (Win7, I believe older OSses have a slightly different location, you can find it by searching for any files with 'preferences.empire' on your computer.
    8. Just delete everything that is in that folder.
    9. Now ETW is back to vanilla, run ETW, choose a grand campaign, choose a nation, try to end turn 1. If this works: your game is okay. Make sure the antivirus program is still disabled! You must run ETW at least once to build the preferences.empire file again.

    10. If that does not work: verify game cache through steam and REBOOT your machine!
    11. Try to run ETW again. If it does still not work: completely reinstall ETW. After reinstallation: make sure vanilla ETW runs!

    12. Now that ETW runs again, still make sure your antivirus is disabled, and reinstall TAR. Restart system.
    13. Run TAR with antivirus disabled, just leave all the options under Advanced Options as they are standard. Do not install any addons just yet, first make sure TAR runs.

    14. Now that TAR runs fine again set the Advanced Options as you like, but take into account the posts about disabling battle borders etc. Patriotic Music Mod and Render Mod ran fine here, but I had CTDs with the Drum n Fife mod.

    Hope this helps

Do you use Windows Vista? I have found that sometimes it can be very slow to respond to attempts to install large downloads like TAR and DMUC. Try selecting the file in the Download folder and select "Run as Administrator". It's possible that permissions might be playing a role.

I assuming since TAR changes so many files in ETW that the mod can't have its own data folder - would be nice though. But I tried playing TAR once about eight month ago and could never get it to work. At first I had some other mods that were conflicting so I uninstalled all of them. That didn't work though. I did a ETW reinstall to get ETW to vanilla but still couldn't get the mod to work. Now that you mentioned the anit-virus or something in AppData folder that might have been why.

Follow the instructions in post 9, skip the steps you have already taken, follow the missing steps TO THE LETTER. I know rebooting is , but it really helps due to memory leaks.

Hmm, weird problem. Uninstall steam, delete entire TAR directory. Also delete the scripts and fx-cache folder in C:\Users\Name\Appdata\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\...

Then reinstall ETW and make sure it runs before installing TAR again.

Make sure you turn off UAC (User Account Control) before installing TAR, that is if you're using vista/7, it sounds like the TAR installer is having problems with the permissions on your computer.

Vanilla is working okay, you ended turn one now and you have a clean installation?

Then turn of User Account Control and your antivirus program, and launch the TAR installer. Then, after installation, reboot your system.
After reboot, launch steam click away the updates, launch the launcher and start TAR. Do not change any options yet in the installer.

To turn off UAC in Vista:
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".
    3. Click on your user account.
    4. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
    5. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
    6. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
    7. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

After reboot, install TAR, apply hotfix, run TAR.
