[PENDING] Encountered a Problem and needs to close (every time I play))

Hi guys,

Nice work on the mod. But for me Empire Total War has been one of the most frustrating games ever released, so much potential... but it just doesn't work really does it? In the last year and a half I have never seen a game display "encountered a problem and needs to close" as often as this game..

So I install ETW on Steam, Download Darthmod Empire 6.35 and Darthmod UC 6.2 and install in that order....

Set everything up and start a game using Ultimate Commander as Britain in 1700.. play 5 turns, save, exit

Come to load game next day "Empire Total War has encountered a problem and needs to close" Hmm...

I decide to delete my save.. as it just won't load, I can see how sending an indiaman to the East indies can be catastrophic to my savegame so i start again..

I am using the Ultimate Commander Launcher btw.

So I start a new game, click Grand Campaign and all the flags/faces have reverted back to vanilla....

I verify intergrity of steam cache and reinstall DM Empire 6.35 and DM UC 6.2

start new game

flags/faces in Grand Campaign are still Vanilla...

I delete all my user_script entries and go to UC launcher and revert and reset user scripts....

UC Flags/Faces are back!

Start new game as Britain 1700

Play 2 turns...

Attacked at Moose Factory by the Hugots, I'm halfway into a battle and.....

"Empire Total War has encountered a problem and needs to close"

It kind of pauses for a while before crashing don't know if it's maxing out my memory maybe... I have 2gig on Windows 7....

nice touch with the new smoke effects btw, was enjoying that..


My specs:

AMD ATHLON II x4 630 2.8ghz
Radeon HD 5770
2gig DDR3 Ram
Windows 7 Pro 32bit


Any help much appreciated....

For a start you do not need to have DM 6.35 and DMUC 6.2 at the same time. You get no additional benefit from that whatsoever.

Uninstall everything, verify and then install only DMUC 6.2, and we'll see if that works.

What I can't work out is whether these two crashes are related, so we'll need to try a few things...

Ok I Uninstalled DM Empire and DMUC, Verified Files, reinstalled DMUC,

Load my game

Attacked at Moose Factory by the Hugots, halfway into a battle and.....

checked all my drivers are up to date...

I'm going to uninstall DMUC and try a campaign with just DM 6.35 and see what happens

UNinstall DMUC (and any other mods you have) and see if vanilla ETW works.

Tried it with just DM 6.35 and it crashed again at the same point..

will try now with Vanilla

vanilla crashes on the campaign map before i even get to the battle

Vanilla crashes even after you verify it?
You might need to completely reinstall ETW and possibly steam...

Yeah the game just crashes to desktop far too often........I think this is a memory issue, I've ordered some more RAM, will report back

I've installed some more RAM, (4GB total) on Windows 7 and no more crashes as yet.... I think my problem was related to this thread:

It used to run fine with 2GB RAM on XP, but i guess with the extra Windows 7 requirements it needed more RAM...
