Can someone help me plz?

Hello everybody!

hmm where to start...
Ok first my rig:
Quad core @ 3.00 ghz, 8 gb ram, ati radeon hd 5970 2gb, Windows 7 64bit

The problem:
On the campaign map at first everything looks ok but when I open a UI screen (e.g. the objectives tab)
the UI starts to flicker and gets all scrambled and stays scrambled until i alt-tab or change something from the graphic settings (so until the screen reloads). Except this everything is fine, no other issues.
I also have napoleon total war and that has no issues whatsoever...

So i searched around the net and tried every possible solution i've read so far...
Reinstall the game, drivers, checked/unchecked the application settings thing in CCC, lowered graphical settings, checked/unchecked all sorts of graphic options, checked for overheating,.....
But nothing helped, so i (and other people around the net) came to the conclusion that it's a bug in the game or something with the ati drivers...? So i have to wait until the game or the ati drivers get a patch/update...
But i started thinking about a way to solve this -> since i don't have the issue in NPTW, is there a way to take the file(s) that take care of the UI (like the skins) in NPTW and use them for ETW...?

Or is there a mod that changes the UI?

I have some problems with ATI Graphic when i run ETW in window mode. Did you tried to run it in fullscreen?

Otherway there are UI mods downloadable, you can try them.
For example Mahagony UI from Maronmars: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=237704
In the first post is the UI attached as ZIP-file.

I always play it in full screen mode (maybe i'll try it in windowed mode to see if that helps)

I'll try that mod you sugested, hope it helps, cause i really want to start playing this game.

The mod doesn't help apparently but running it in window mode does!
Now i don't get the flickering/scrambling of the UI...

If someone knows what the cause of this could be, please tell me
because playing in window mode isn't that great imo but at least i can play the game now!

This is strange, i try to check out whats the problem when i run my game in window mode.
Maybe i can say then a little bit more. On the first sight i suspect ATi drivers.

I remember something about ati drivers, lemme look around a see if I can find it, its old and may take awhile...but basically having to roll back the drivers.
also, you may want to look over at napolean total war, irishron had alot of info for alot of problems, try some of the solution for ntw problems, as I think thats where I saw something about ati cards.

Finally, run an dxdiag, from your "run" option and study that puppy really good. You may have a problem with whql issues. there are many tests that can be done with the dxdiag, that has resolved issues for me, with my hp laptop, with ati card.
you just have to study it real close, as it may be something simple.



awww heck,......just saw this....... if you go to the technical section in ETW they have a post on ati cards, and also a big help with graphic settings. good luck.

But with the dxdiag tool, i'm not really sure what i'm looking for,
everything looks fine to me but i'm not really an expert.
Do you have any sugestions as to what I should check?

hey DieterDR, here is my dxdiag.

i clicked start, all programs, accessories, run.
in the run window type dxdiag. as you can see on mine it is whql logo'd. recently i ran dxdiag and found where not everything was whql logo'd. that basically means you gotta go to microsoft.com and allow them to verify you have a legal copy of windows. i forget the exact terminology, but thats the gist of it. at the same time, allow all upgrades. then run dxdiag, and if it is the first time, there is a tab for "testing" you graphics, sound, etc.
also, i let my windows run in xp compatibility, 32 bit, for ETW. Steam keeps giving me popups at startup to not do this, but i close that and allow it. ntw runs better on 64 bit, etw runs better on 32 bit, or so i have read.
from what ive read, our systems are not so different, and mine runs etw, and its mod ape/ti witout the least problem.
however when i first got this rig about 2 months ago, i had to tweak it to get the best out of it. the technical section had some good info on ati graphics drivers.
the moderators here will get you going, as they are all incredibly awesome. so hang in there. last question, do you have any mods installed? happy thanksgiving.

Did everything you sugested grandpa but nothing helped
The dxdiag looks ok to me, everything whql logo'd.
No mods installed except the "Mahagony UI from Maronmars" that i tried to maybe help with the problem...
I'm also plowing through every ati/graphic problem related post i can find but nothing as of yet...
I also made a screen capture clip to clarify the problem more (see below)

And yeah if a mod reads this maybe you can move this topic to the technical section, sorry about misplacing it

Have you tried ATI's 10.5 drivers?
Is the CCC set to application controlled and graphics setings in game?
Have you installed manually directx 9.0c, C++ 2005 SP1, and .Net 4? FYI, the game is XP and it needs thes no matter what Microsoft says.

Yes, yes and just installed them but no luck

I also saw today that there are new 10.11 ati drivers and installed them but still unsolved...

One way to find out a couple of things is to uninstall/delete all mods, delete the scripts folder and verify your game cache.
