The Askētikos
'Askētikos' a wandering holy man or hermetikos who renounce worldly possessions and work towards the betterment of the spirit. These holy travelers dedicate themselves to a life of helping others and teaching the gnosis to those who will receive it. They often venture out into the world solo in their journeys. However it is not uncommon to find these holy men among trader caravans, or in distant villages teaching 'barbaros'. The Askētikos practice non violence yet the roads of Middle Asia are often hostile to their philosophy and teachings, as well as their well person and being. Therefore those of the Asketikoi in order to reach those most in need of their help and guidance have learned forms of self defense. Others may choose to follow military escorts which provide their security while they in turn provide insight to mores for soldiers who may otherwise become corrupted by the violent life on the cross roads. Askētikoi sometimes take up trades, such as writing and record keeping, building, animal husbandry, cooking, over all those that do become highly skilled craftsmen.
