    Default What Faction?

Just wanted to start a little poll regarding what culturally based faction you will play first. The alternatives are a bit broad but what the hey!

Well the Britons are "Celtic", but I get your point.

I voted Celts as I will mainly play as the Picts and Irish factions. All of that after playing Arthur though

your points are well taken, but anyhooo, i'll play as some Briton faction because they have acces to some close copies of Roman troops.

I'll be playing as one of the tribes from Wales myself. Being Welsh myself, I'll have to correct history with us kicking arse instead of the other way around

Picts aren't a tribe, they're a kingdom. We haven't got any 'tribes' in the game, I don't think, for Gaels/Picts/Britons. They're all kingdoms with many dozens and dozens of tribes, clans, and families in them.

And Picts aren't Scotts either if I remember correctly.

Yes, Scots did not exist. There were the Dal Riadans, who would eventually rule Pictland and unite what is now Scotland, but they called their kingdom Alba. They were only called 'Scotti' by foreigners, and Scotland was a Saxon name. It wasn't until Lothian became part of Alba did the locals actually call it Scotland (since Lothian was all English speakers). 'Scot' was actually an offensive name to the Gaels, because it implied that they were pirates (Scotti having been originally been applied to actual Gaelic pirates and raiders who had plagued Roman-Britain after the king of Ireland, Niall Noigalaich, told them they could legally without fear of arrest or fines).

Picts are an amalgam of a few people (Britons, demi-Celtic/non-Celtic Caledonians, and probably some Gaels), and by the Arthurian period, due to close ties to Gaels (who had supported them with weapons and many other things, when they were fighting Romans) had begun to Gaelicize quite a bit, but were still distinctly Pictish, and many were still pagans in this period. They're pretty distinct people.

Gaels are also distinct, in clothing, language, and weapons, compared to most of their neighbors. But they had an island with a few kingdoms, and had conquered a portion of Britain already (Dyfedd), and were migrating a few other places (Dal Riada being the biggest one).
