Default F Rap and Rock! New Wave, Baby!

I know I will get lonely in this thread, but I promise my clients an MP3 or two! The truth is, I love all sorts of music. I've even admitted I'm an oldschool Grand Master Flash (Furrious Five or Melle Mel!) fan!

Ok, New Wave. Done wrong, you've got the 1980s. Done right, you have Ultravox, Alphaville, Visage, even Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure (arguably).

We're talking stuff as classic to me as any Led Zepplin is to me or others.

I was about 12 or 13 when my Moheecan (That's mohoc to us Yanks) haired Punk Rock older sister threw some old vynle singles at me. Standau Ballet, Ultravox, Visage...

I was sold. Later I discovered Alphaville, Depeche Mode, Joy Division (later New Order) Yazoo,(that's yaz, again, for us Yanks)...

So, I'll leave you with a modern but still classic New Wave tune by Alphaville (the one's who brought us Forever Young at all those graduation parties lol).

    Euphoria

Kind of thunder from my heart
    Flooding my eyes
    Flooding my eyes
Kind of armies marching through my head
    Sombre soldiers
    From nowhere
Kind of someone’s moving out of me
    Have no fear
    Have no fear
Kind of someone’s moving out of me
    Going somewhere
    Going somewhere

Ship is leaving right on time
    Empty harbour, wave goodbye
    Evacuation of the isle
    Caveman’s paintings drowning
Famous last words on the air
I stay here and you are there
    While our city softly sinks
    Cavemen’s paintings drowning
    Drowning
    Drowning...

(And yes, this is where the eye-liner part came in Squeakus Maximus! )

BTW, Marion Golde, the lead singer does all the vocals except any women you here. All the chorus' are his voice overs. He also writes most of the lyrics. The dude is simply amazing. And a set of pipes to back it up.
(it's a german band, BTW, just like KMFDM --another fav of mine)

What I will contribute to this thread is the lyrics to the song "Pull my strings" by the Dead Kennedys.

    I'm tired of self-respect
    I can't afford a car
I wanna be a prefab superstar
    I wanna be a tool
    Don't need no soul
    Wanna make big money
    Playing rock and roll
    I'll make my music boring
    I'll play my music slow
    I ain't no artist
    I'm a businessman
    No ideas of my own

    I won't offend
    Or rock the boat
    Just sex and drugs
    And rock and roll

Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool My payola!
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool My payola!

You'll pay ten bucks to see me
On a fifteen foot high stage
    Fatass bouncers kick the ****
Out of kids who try to dance
If my friends say I've "lost my guts"
    I'll laugh and say
    That's rock and roll
    But there's just one problem...

    Is my cock big enough
    Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far

    And when I'm rich
    And meet Bob Hope
    We'll shoot some golf
    And shoot some dope

    Is my cock big enough
    Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far

Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool My payola!
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool My Payola

I'm not a fan on New Wave myself. Don't know why they just dont really do anything for me.
That said the Smashing Pumpkins (by far my favorite band) started out as New Wave, and alot of their music is New Wave inspired....
All the post-punk revival bands that are distinctly new-wave annoy me too...probably more so than "proper" new-wave bands
