Default One Core Or Dual Core?

    Hi RS2 fans,

I have a question: I own two computers, the one I use the most (play RSII with) is a laptop, Toshiba Satellite L500D with AMD Turion Dual Core 2.20 GHZ CPU, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 graphics card, 4 Gb Memory.

And my stationary computer that's kinda old, its an Dell Dimension 8300 with 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card, and approximately 1.7 Gb Memory.

I play RS II on fairly low settings on my laptop on Large scale unit size, and it does lagg kinda bad, especially if you zoom in on full stack battles.

I have never played RTW on the Dell computer and I wonder since RTW can't use 2 CPU Cores if it will run better on the stationary computer?

    Thanks!

It probably would be because it is nearly a whole Ghz faster, and your video card for the desktop is better. As for the memory, RTW won't use more than 1.7 Gb so that should be fine for you.

As RTW can only run on ONE core you can stop wondering if dual core would be better...

The more Hz the processer has the better....so a single core with 3,2 Ghz will do much better than a Dual Core with 2,2 Ghz...

Reading the Release Thread help s as well

From my personal experience the CPU power is not very important in RTW. I remember back in 2004 i had 1,5ghz inter processor. Just for this game l bought 3 ghz Prescott and THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE! Also now, with 1,5ghz duo core. No difference. The only hardware, which can help is better video card (much, much more video RAM and higher bus bandwitch (this is crucial!!! 256bit is perfect)
Also a year ago my pc was with 1gb ram, l bought 4gb, maybe 3-4fps boost.
So the video card is the most important for this game!

Thanks for the quick replies, I am going to give the desktop a chance. I just need to buy a new battery to it

I got a G0 Q6600 clocked @ 3ghz, 4gb ram and a GTX 280 and i can't run maximum settings like vegetation with huge unit sizes (same with RS1.6), i'm pretty sure the CPU is the problem. I've had a single core laptop in the past that ran RS1.6 like a breeze, with far lesser hardware

The cpu is used to calculate the mechanics, not to render the game. Its logical. Yes the vegetation is enormously heavy (on the battlefield you have 10,000 men (example)) But you have maybe 30,000 grass and tree objects with high res textures. The Gpu need time to render all properly and that is the lag.
Also the processor you have cannot have performance issue with anything now . Its pretty good!
Also the engine is not optimized for the new hardware. So if you have AA and AF you should turn them off!

I can give example from my experience. I have desktop pc and laptop. My desktop pc is old, it has 3ghz old pentium processor, 6800 nvidia with 128mb of memory. In raw characteristics the old pc is better than my laptop. But my laptop has 8400gs with hyper memory (up to 1024mb) and RTW runs better on my laptop, just because of the video memory. I upgraded the ram, no effect, also as l said above l changed the processor on my old desktop pc from 1.5ghz to 3ghz and l didn't see any boost....

Are you using the dual core optimizer?

I am going to go and buy the battery for my desktop to make it start, would be wise if I bought a new graphics card instead of the 9800 Pro. I had this in mind
Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512MB would it be possible for me to run on huge unit size, with fairly low graphics settings?

Thank you for all the replies!

I can't tell you for sure, but l think it will be enough. It better than my current video and l can play such battles (over 10,000 l get unplayable lag). But with this video it should be ok. Search for benchmarks.
