Thread: 1230 (Mongol Invasion)

    Default 1230 (Mongol Invasion)

This thread is for discussion and feedback for the 1230 campaign.

Though the first Crusade brought great success for the Crusaders, the next four crusades achieved little. When Constantinople was sacked during the fourth Crusade the Eastern Roman Empire split into 4 four parts: the Latin Empire, the Depotate of Epirus, the Empire of Nicaea, and the Empire of Trebizond. The Depotate of Epirus and the Empire of Nicaea are now battling the Latin Empire (which now only controls Constantinople) and each other to restore the Eastern Roman Empire.

However a new power has emerged in east; the Mongolian Empire. After crushing the Khwarezm-Shah dynasty they have began expanding into Russia, China, and Persia. Unless they are quickly stopped they may overwhelm all of Afro Eurasia.

    Technology

At the start of this mod Light Mail or Lamellar are the strongest armour available to the player and most of the infantry available wield spears. Cannons will become available later on.

    • Royal buildings allow you to recruit castle units in cities.
    • Arqubusters and Musketeers available from their own building, rather than a Royal Barracks.

Im having troubles to find the settlement that controls siberia. Any ideas of its whereabouts?

Besides that: Another great campaign. Im playing as the Jin Dinasty and the Gui Ren Lancers overwhelm almost everything.

Here is the relevant part of the map_regions.tga.

Red is Arkhangelsk, grey is Siberia, the white dots are ports, and the black dots are the settlements.

Hi uanime5 this is a good mod to begin with, however there is some inaccuracy regarding the Jurchen Jin Dynasty.

Since the mod starts in 1230, the Jurchens are already crumbling under pressure from the Mongols for some time and it will take 4 more years before their regime extinguishes. So the territory the Jin holds in 1230 is not as what is represented in the game. It is definitely smaller than that. The Jin's in-game territory was during the Dynasty's hey day, i.e. the 12th century:

However by the end of the Tangut Western Xia in 1227, the Jin Dynasty had already lost lands north of the Yellow River to the Mongols. The capital now is at Kaifeng (since 1214), the former capital of the Northern Song:

This is just my 2 cents; I am sure that players of this campaign would much like historical accuracy to be taken into account, and at the same time not compromise the gameplay. Sorry for my bad English.

In the latest patch I've made Jin smaller to represent how it had been partially conquered by the Mongols in 1230.

I noticed when playing as the other Chinese Dynasty that the Jin were putting up a really good fight, actually completely resisting the Mongols.

But then again, I was at peace with the Jin.

Subutai isn't included for the Mongols? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subutai
One of the greatest generals, and the strategic mind responsible for the mongol conquests in Europe, it's almost crazy not to have him present as a general! He's the guy that did most of the conquering during this period. I know the Mongols are pretty powerful as it is, but one more army with a general doesn't hurt. I've added him into my descr_strat with the following based on Batu, but a little beefed up since he's a legendary commander.

Sorry if I came off kind of rude, I'm a bit of a Subutai buff, since he was the mastermind behind pretty much all of the expansion of this period. Your mod is the most complete version of the Mongol expansion available. I only wish you could have the rise of the empire under Genghis on this map, too.

Not sure if it is too late to suggest some improvements on historical accuracy, because I only just started playing this mod.
The income of the Song Dynasty was huge compared to other countries at the period. In Southern Song, the annual income of the government was roughly 100 million "kan" (At that period, 1 kg of gold is roughly 750 kan and 1 kg of silver, 57.5 kan), that was around 130,000 kg of gold or 1,700,000 kg of silver. And that was also how Song could survive with all those strong nations nearby. The government could pay in exchange for peace.

The main reason for the defeats historically was the lack of horses. Southern China was not suitable for horses and so Song had no strong cavalry. And so the recruitment cost and upkeep for cavalry should be made much higher, while increasing the income per turn.

In the introduction it says that the Mongol empire
have destroy the Khwarezm-Shah dynasty. But the mongolse empire
have not conquered the whole territory of the Khwarezm-Shah dynasty.
the Khwarezm-Shah dynasty has more territory in the reality
than that on the map is.
