From the seleucid armoured elephants to the various tower elephants, War Elephants have always been a star attraction in RTW and RTW based mods. Unforunately, the depiction of these tanks of the ancient battlefield have not been as realistic as one would have liked. From the unrealistic cataphract elephant to using African elephants with a different coloured skin as Indian elephants ( ), it all seemed a bit too much for me in a RTR submod.
To rectify these issues I had to embark on my most challenging tasks yet in my short modding history, create an asian elephant 3D model that would serve as the base for these units and also create animation for the riders. and of course, lots of bog standard modeling and skinning.
My heartfelt thanks to PatricianS and florin80 for their valuable suggestions and ideas. Without PatricianS' tutorial I couldn't possibly have learnt animation. To CC for his valuable historical inputs, critical eye (he made me redo the elephant model 4 times.) and bearing patiently with my slow rate of progress without threatening to sack me !! To all the posters in the 'Roster for India' thread in ExRM forum for the enlightening discussions.
NOTE : I would be happy to answer any historical accuracy related question but I would request interested people to first go through the 'Roster for India' thread in ExRM forum, many questions have already been answered there.
Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, We at Fortuna Orbis are proud to present

The rest are all Indian elephants. The difference in appearance of the two species, African forest elephant and Indian elephant should be obvious.
