I am not the OP, but I will add that explanation to my short cut collection - thanks Ishan.
What about Virtual XP? Wouldn't installing/playing Medieval under that bypass the problem?
It does not work on Virtual XP. Virtual XP only recognizes the old S3 drivers and nothing to do with 3d animation. Been there, done that.
It was an idea. And I bought 7 professional only because of that feature, but it probably won't help me with any games! Oh well maybe it'll come in handy sometime.
So, I already uninstalled Medieval. When I reinstall, should I install everything including mods before doing the operation suggested by the OP? After doing that, will VirtualStore stop sending files to the hidden place? More importantly, can I make changes or mods inside the Medieval folder? What if I want to add a new mod? Say I did the operation w/o TATW, later on I want to install TATW, do I need to do anything special?
Do the OP first. Delete both Medieval II Total War folders second. Run a registry Cleaner third. Reboot fourth. Install in C:\Games fifth. Patch the game sixth. If vanilla and all four Kingdoms campaigns start, install your mods.
Thank you irishron, and forgive me if I test your patience but I want to get it straight.
I already uninstalled the game and erased the folders. As for the reg cleaning, what program do you recommend?
OK so I install in C\Games (fifth step). At what point after that do I perform the things recommended at the start of this thread? Or is it no longer needed, because I installed in C\Games instead of C\Program Files?
Do the steps in the OP first and foremost. It will save headaches later. This should be Step One, now.
Fifth step = http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm is the one I use.
Added Ishan's section to the OP
Hey there irishron
Well I've Window 7 with Total War Medieval 2 Gold Edition, and wanted to try out the Stainless Steel 6.4 mod, but require 6.3.
I've downloaded the Mirror 3 - Filefront
by Black-
Installer/Setup SS6.3.exe
(needs all of the following parts [bin files, have to be extracted first] in the same folder to work)
SS 6.3 Part 1: Part 1.1, Part 1.2 (7zip split archives)
SS 6.3 Part 2: Part 2.1, Part 2.2 (7zip split archives)
SS 6.3 Part 3: Part 3.1, Part 3.2 (7zip split archives)
SS 6.3 Part 4: Part 4.1, Part 4.2 (7zip split archives)
SS 6.3 Part 5: Part 5 (.bin file, extracted by installer)
I've putted all the parts into C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods and used the "helper program for SS6.3 filefront mirror" and after that installed with "SS6.3_installation_patcher_v.2.5" The game started but crashed after the intro, so I try turning off the UAC but not thing work.........help?
(I'm not really good with computer so u might have to explains thing more ^^) Thanks
Guys i follow the step 3... "By removing the security concerns about your Med2 install"
and now it's ed up.. my MTW II won't start.
i unistalled it and now OS doesn't let me enter in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\medival total war II
i tried to resolve it by re-allow MODIFY and FULL CONTROL but doesn't work.. I've got Windows Vista 32-bit...
Which is the solution?
Please help me
Read this post and take ownership of the entire folder, use the files i attached in that post.
Here, it's easy: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc753659.aspx
I imagine Vista's probably the same as 7. I'd install steam outside the program files folder, take ownership of steam's folder and then do whatever I like.
