    That was a bit confusing, I am extremely tired and I kept forgetting everything. Will I be able to install 6.4 if 6.3 doesn't work?

    You need a good install of 6.3 for 6.4 to work. Best advice is delete the one you have now, get a clean download and start over.

    That is in the medieval2.preferences.cfg.

    Look for the show_banners line.

    Did you look in the main Medieval II Total War folder in Program files (x86) assuming you istalled it in default with UAC enabled.

    If so, also check the Medieval II Total War folder user\username\appdaa\roaming or virtual sore after you unhide all files and folders in Folder Options.

    I think I messed up when trying to follow the instructions at the beginning of the thread. It told me something about the thingie being unstable because some files would be accesible and others denied. Now I have some files in Medieval and its mods that say access denied, and I have some problems like missing banners in battle. I have found a Virtual Store/Medieval folder where some current files such as medieval2.prefernces.cfg are. Incidentally both the cfg in original Medieval folder and the one in Virtual Store say show_banners = 1 but I don't see them. The cfg in original folder seems to be outdated (wrong resolution and video options data for instance), the one in VS seems fine and it would seem to be working because the video options are consistently kept when I open the game.

    The thingie said that if I had made a mistake I should try to configure it all again to the correct form but I can't because I get all these access denied messages when I try to do it all over again.

    What can I do to get it straight? Reinstall perhaps? This is my second day of Win 7 after using only XP and I'm baffled.

    @SigniferOne

    I have referred a good number of people to this thread and it has been very helpful for most of them.

    Just a little request - could you please add a section explaining on how to 'unhide' hidden folders? I keep on explaining that to the lesser technical minded members in connection with this thread.

    Add this post in the OP Gig:

    How to Unhide hidden folders on Windows:
    • Go to 'My Computer' and then click 'Alt' Key on your keyboard to being the Menu bar.
    • Then then click on Tools>Folder options (Shown below) and a pop up box will appear.
      Path to Folder Options (Click)
    • Another fast way to find the 'Folder Options' is to use the search box from the start menu. Simply type "folder options" in the search field and the first result should be the Folder Options shortcut. Click on the it or press the Enter key to open it. Go to the View tab (Shown below) and make the settings you want.
      Folder Options Box (Click)

    • Select the show hidden files option and press ok as shown in the above pic & you are done.
