    Default Steam vs mods

Not sure this is the correct forum, but how does Steam interact w/ mods? More specifically, I downloaded a simple loading screens mod here:

    http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/n...mod/35949.html

Installed as directed and on entering the game got a "path corrupted" error placard from Steam. I had to uninstall NTW and do a reinstall.

My version of NTW was store bought and loaded from two CDs not downloaded from Steam.

I've also been eyeing a big mod like Zulu for example. How do these big mods play with Steam?

I understand that virtually no mod will work with multiplayer, but that's not the issue here.

I suppose it would depend where you installed napoleon to.... but as far i've experienced absolutely no problems with mods.

It's not installed in Program Files. It's on the E drive (SSD) under it's own games folder.

how exactly did you install it?

I'm guess by the description of the mod it's a media pack... which would work... but you'd have to look into that a little more... because if it is a mod pack you would need to find your user.script file and add in the mod to that.

I don't know about this stuff too much though since i downloaded it off steam...

Sounds like either a corrupt file or an installation problem.

    However if not:
I also bought mine on disc from a shop, but I then used steam to run it, it DL's the whole damn game but I can use all the mods I want without any problem.
My NTW is in program files/steam/steamapps.

You could try installing from steam if all else fails (though it takes half the day).

It's not that the mods don't work with multiplayer, it's that the multiplayer wants all players to have the same game files. That means people with the same mod can play against each other in multiplayer. This is of course to prevent people from cheating their heads off.

I personally haven't experienced any problems with steam and the majority of the mods on here. The size of the mod shouldn't really affect anything. Steam is actually kinda nice because you can just verify your game cache if you ever want to uninstall a mod the real easy way

edit: though I've noticed this method leaves startpos folders in place
