A Question
What is map.rwm ?

It is a game created file in 'data\world\maps\base' folder. If you make changes to the map, this file can be deleted and the game will regenerate it. It basically stores all the information about the strat map.

The file can be safely deleted before you launch the game at any time.
If the file is not present it will be created from other text files in the data folder. There may be a slight delay during the campaign load process but it's not noticable.
I've seen maps mess up (settlement names transposed) for whatever reason and simply deleting the map.rwm fixes the problem.

You can safely DELETE the map.rwm. I doubt that many CTDs are caused by a corrupted map - they do happen though.
