Default Pantokrator Hellas Faction Preview- Athens

Pantokrator hellas is a new total mod for RTW

    Why is it any different?

It is one of the only mods to feature only the civilised world around 530 bc. Thus, it focuses on the growing hellenic world....

The persian empire, to the east, the biggest empire ever seen has its armies poised to cross into Hellas...

To the south, the pharaohs, with the oldest civilisation ever seen, rule. Their glory days are nearing their end, but the aeging civilization still has a mighty rule...

To the north, the small kingdom of Macedon, once destined to rule the world, has its beginnings

And in Hellas, tension grows between the many states....

THIS WILL LEAD TO NOTHING BUT TOTAL WAR!!!

    ATHENS

The history of Athens is the longest of any city in Europe: Athens has been continuously inhabited for at least 3,000 years. It was the birthplace of democracy and it became the leading city of Ancient Greece in the first millennium BC. Its cultural achievements during the 5th century BC laid the foundations of western civilisation.

The state of Athens, in reality, was the only major Greek contender to the might of Sparta. Athens may not have been as militarily tunnel-minded and powerful as Sparta, but it symbolised, as a state, fairness and learning.

Athens was a key power in the sea also. In the peloponnesian war, the Athenian navy was slightly stronger than the Spartan navy, also meaning trade was plentful.

The state of Athens was a major power, and although quite not as strong as Sparta, is remembered for the great scholars and philosophers who let us know today about these events...

BUT LETS LOOK AT THE GOOD BITS NOW!

These men are enroled into the state army when needed. Although meant to be free men, these Athenians are expected to fight in times of need. They carry a hoplon only for protection, and little armour. They are not the best equipped or trained men, but due to their lack of armour, usually don't tire easily.

Generally Hellenic armies consist of some missile and cavalry, and these men form the peltasts, or 'pelte bearers' named after their shield designs. They are not the wealthiest men, but for many reasons have avoided being in the phalanx. These men, usually are of mid tolate teens, so are too young to be in the frontline. They wear little armour and their only defence is their pelte. It is made of a wicker like wood due to its easiness to consrtuct. Nonetheless, these peltasts are useful in many situations.

Archery was essential for people in the ancient world. It put food on the table, amongst other things. This skill, once perfected, can also be put to the battlefield. Although not a large part of Greek warfare, it was a useful asset to have ranged firepower.

These cavalry skirmishers are of those able to ride a horse. Usuakky farmers with a horse can fight in these units, rather than being in the frontline. Against cavalry-centered persian armies, they can be useful

These hoplites form the bulk of an Athenian army, and are usually trained from middle class citizens. They wear armour and are well trained, but are not usually wealthy enough to be placed in the cavalry. They are unique of Athens herself, and many an hour is spend decorating the hoplon, as any of these men would be proud to say they were Athenian.

Standard bearers carry the pride of the unit. This Athenian has gotten full of pride and charged before the rest of his men!

Usually this sort of scum would be rowing in the triremes, but desparate times must be upon the city!

The horse, in Athenian ideas, does not fit with war very well. These nobles are wealthy enough to afford all the trimmings of armour, and these sorts of units usually accompany a powerful politician, or leader.

Finally, the heavy peltasts. They are of those young and wealthy enough to avoid the phalanx but get armour and training. They can also hold their own in a melee

ALL YOU SEE IS MY WORK, EXCEPT THE ONE HOPLITE MODEL, FROM DARK FENRIRS HOPLITE PACK
