Can AI allies support you?

If your AI ally is at war with the same nation as you, can they coe as reinforcements in a battle near one of their stacks/cities to help you?

They can, but I've never seen it happen, at least on an open field (in Rome TW once I think).
If you keep an army near an allied army which is sieging a city, you may get to see your two armies on the same battlefield.

I had it happen when I was had laid siege to Venice, my Polish allies came in and tipped the odds for the battle in my favor, but since they were the attackers I decided not to join them and let them get kicked out of the region. Softened em up and next turn I massacred. So while I have yet to fight an actual battle side by side, I did get the opportunity in ETW

Yes. When playing UP and i captured flanders, my ally westphalia spawned some stacks into flanders. they helped a lot keeping the french off. offcours you need to give military acces

I just had this happen,

I couple of nearby Dutch ships joined in a battle between me (GB) and the French.

I believe some mods modify AI behaiviour, so that the allies will actually help you out a lot more.

And it's actually smart because it also deters the human player to attack them. As France my Westphalian allies spawn a full stack right next to my capital, and it is the only unsubdued state in Europe.
And it is also helpful when the AI somehow decides to backstab you.

Example i played with poland and at war with prussia and austria. They invade my regions and my historical ally russia came for help with big army.

I just had the opportunity as Prussia. I left Berlin completely undefended as I was pushing my full stack south. Hannover parked a full stack right next to my city and Austria attacked. I autoresolved and they saved my city. Similar thing happened later on a field battle with my ally Poland vs. Austria. Their full stack reinforced my half stack vs an Austrian full stack.

Usually I don;t rely on my allies, my allies rely on me

With my foreign policy of "Stop those bloody Germans" I entered a war with Hanover against Prussia, and for quite a while, my expeditionary force fought valiantly with my Hanoverian allies against the prussians, we even managed to go on the offensive for a while. In the end, My army went to far into german lands and left Hanover undefended, and it was taken.

That was a very fun localized war.

As America, France has saved my ass many times. When i declared war on poland, it was france who took the heat and fought off prussia austria and poland. Then when i landed 3 american legions on the coast of france together we took germany(we literally fought together in every battle.)and Carved it up for ourselves. We did the same with the english isles.

Many times. As France and Spain,were very close and I remember several wars of me as France helping Spain to keep Flanders. Another time,I went to war with Great Britian. My ally,the Huron-Wyandot,took Rupert's Land from the British,while I held back the Iroqouis-British tide in New France. Sweden's helped me in some wars with Prussia to.

I had a similar situation as Hannover - but no one invaded there was just a Westaphilian Army & a Prussian Army(both Allies) sitting next to my capital, so i restricted their militay access because of past experiences of backstabbing allies.

My best battle was right after tweaking the AI for the first time. During a test campaign, a war broke out between these two alliances:

Eastern Alliance

Poland
Russia
Courland

Western Alliance

Prussia
Austria
German City States

At the battle of Prague, I as the Austrians marched from my city to engage an enemy army in the field, since the city was not fortified at the time, and I would rather fight in an open field. I didn't reach my intended target in a single turn, and waited for the next one to engage. By the next turn, my Austrian Army, was being supported by a stack of Prussian troops, and a 1/4 stack of Bavarians, whilst simultaneously, the Polish army gained support from a half stack of Russians.

I was overjoyed when I hopped on the battlefield to see Prussia, Polish, Russia, Austrian, and eventually after reinforcement: Bavarian flags flying all on the same field. A four way alliance battle was epically fun.
