    Default gloomy, morose, melancholic

    hi,

early in the game, 260bc. romani

at least half of my family members are gloomy, morose or melancholy.

i hate this as it messes up their morale modifiers.

anything i can do to cheer them up, or am i doomed because they're pessimisstic?

    thanks.

p.s. i have built all Mars. started to build vesta in newly conquered cities hoping they'll cheer up.

Send them in battles and build academias to increase their knowledge .

I never played with Roma in EB but this two things might help you .

Depends if they also have the ''pessimistic'' trait in the selfish/pessimistic/disloyal category, in which case you are pretty much screwed.

Not quite, its a random trait, and not necessarily father son, some get the 'like father' or 'unlike father' trait which means they are unlikely to inherit such traits.

However, as it is random, it is entirely possible that you get 3 pessimistic family members in a row :p

Do you butcher or enslave a lot of cities?

One of the personality traits has something to do with how much they care for other people, and you'll get restless sleeper + morose etc if you kill alot of civilians.

actually i've been occupying almost every city.

all these guys have the pessimistic trait.
i was just hoping there were some city buildings that might reverse it.

One way that you may be able to stop pessimistic FMx from getting the gloomy line of traits is to ensure they never use more than 90% of their movement points per turn.

    i'll try that.

seems like an odd penalty for moving, but thanks for the advice

IIRC, moving them too far starts giving them the "Tired" traits (and moving the full amount, particularly on bad/no roads, gives them the "Forced Marching" trait) which negatively affects their mood.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.
