games shuts off

i was playing with saba earlier and and i was about to attack the persian capital... then the screen turns black and i get a message saying the program isn't responding anymore. i restarted the game and i get the same problem (if i load my saved game), but i can start a new game. is this because of the faction or a bad install?
also i can't get 4 turn/year to work, i keep pressing the show me how button but it does nothing

Game-stopping ctd. Happens. I can't say I'm sure what's the cause, but the most common would be the autosave feature, so you should turn it off in your preferences.txt file (switch it to false). This won't help your saved game, though, I'm afraid you'll have to start a new game.

and about the 4-year per turn script.
You're sure you have RoP 2.22? Because this happened in earlier versions, but is taken care of in 2.22. Perhaps your install is corrupt. You could try to reinstall RoP
