    - The Alan Caganate -
    Made by: Orthanner
Description: Replaces the playable faction of Armenia with the Alans for IBFD 7.04.
    Discuss: - Here -

    - Information -

Historically, in 387 AD Armenia was divided between the Eastern Roman Empire and the Sassanid Empire. In the very beginning of V AD the Alani tribes returned to the Caucasus from the Western Europe. So at this point the mod is to be changed. Thanks to Ramon there are all necessary files and descriptions so it was possible for me to introduce Alan units. Besides, I've done some corrections, more particularly, I have corrected the Sarmatian Armoured Archers - now they use swords for melee as it is depicted on their unit cards. I had to redo their texture and also the Sarmatian Argaragantes texture in order to give these units proper weapons. I have also refined the Sassanian recruitment tree prolonging the recruitment terms of their heavy cavalry (which was given also higher cost and upkeep) and the Alani building tree to offer them a choice between paganism and christianity. The other changes involve diplomacy: the Alani are initially at war with the Sassanids and have an alliance with the Slavs, - and cultural corrections (the Hephtalites and the Huns now are of the same culture - both were Turks - while the Alani use the nomad culture; buildings icons are still to be changed).

The campaign description for the Alani:
    The Alan Caganate

    Difficulty Factor: ESTIMATED HARD
The Alani are an Iranian-speaking people who have dominated the southern steppes for centuries, a loose coalition of smaller tribes including the Scythians and Roxolani. Roman sources also call them "the Sarmatians" and even "the Scythians", yet these tribes were just part of the tribal alliance as well as the Alani themselves. Originally they held a region from Danube river to Ural mountains and from the Caucasus to the northern forests. The invasion of the Goths in III AD divided them in two separate confederations: the Caucasian Alans and the Danube Alans. In IV AD the Huns made the Caucasian Alans a part of their alliance and set them to move westwards but being reinforced by the Danube branch the Alani broke the alliance and went through the Western Europe to Africa and then back to the Caucasus. Historically, they were crushed only by the Mongols in XIII AD.

The Alani are superb horsemen. Unlike most of their neighbours, their army consists mostly of heavy cavalry, not so heavily armored as Sassanid ones but far more numerous. They value bravery and fighting skills above all, and are not to be easily ovecome. The Alani are in a way similar to the Huns in terms of warfare - their heavy cavalry is at least as powerful as the hunnic one - but more civilized. They have a long history and are not just excellent warriors - even the Romans often employed them as mercenaries - but also good traders. They guarded trade caravans following from the Far East to Europe and back, and so they had enough money to arm more heavy cavalrymen then any other nation. Utilize their warriors correctly and they will be the key to victory.
Native unit roster does not include infantry units - only AOR troops are available. The only exclusion was made for Horde Bosphoran Infantry (corrected as the mod original used bosphoran_warrior model but bosphoran_infantry unit cards and description - now spearmen). It also does not include ultra-light cavalry/HA with 0-turn recruitment term, starting with medium-heavy lancers. This is done to prevent the Alani from becoming stack-producing machine as their native cavalry troops aren't much weaker than the Sassanian ones. The units size of the Alan Horse Archers for the Alani was increased from 25 to 45 leaving for other factions as it was (+1 unit slot).
    The Sarmatian Lancers

Horde Alan Cavalry (almost similar to the Alan Horse Archers)

    The Sarmatian Argaragantes

    The Alan Lancers

    The Royal Argaragantes

As you can see on this screenshot, the horde sarmatian lancers are more numerous than the "regular" ones. This is balanced by slightly lower stats of all the horde cavalry units and almost non-existent horde infantry.

Also I must mention that steppe/Iranian/Roman heavy cav units were given extra charge and also area attribute for spears. Super-heavy cavalry was also given combat penalty in snow.

And to prove the statement in the campaign desc that "unlike most of their neighbours, their army consists mostly of heavy cavalry, not so heavily armored as Sassanid ones but far more numerous". According to the historical and archaeological researchers the total part of heavy cavalry was 7% in the Roman armies, 15-16% in the Iranian armies and about 50% in the Alan and Hunnic armies.

    - Carajudo's New Textures & Graphics Pack -

Description: New units and some other graphical updates for IBFD 7.03.
    Discuss: - Here -

    - Information -

Well as the next release of IB is going to take some more time, i'm uploading this second pack with just a few more skins for the sassanids, picts and some others...
You see, i prefer not to work in textures now and when the next pack is out, find them obsolete because changes in units or models...so my big next release is planed to be compatible with the incoming IB version...sorry pals...just a few more days...

This second pack also ads some small features like better lightning and a nicer smoke for the volcano, and also some different values about the walking speed of the units, mostly while crossing rivers.

    CURRENT VERSION: 0.4

Instructions: just unpack the files in your Rome total war directory and replace the existing folders (data, bi and ibfd) when asked. All the versions are "stand alone" working packs, so you don't need anything else than the latest version.

    http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=V45453E9

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some screenshoots about some small modifications i´ve made to the original textures...
And also i´ve included gloss and new info UI cards.

    ´

Another small data: i don´t like to work with 512x512 textures so all of these are 256x256

as you can see in the last screen that belongs to an older model.

    INVASIO BARBARORVM PLAYER's GUIDE

WARNING: This guide is very much unfinished but might take some time so will make it available but is very much subject to changes.

    SET-UP and INSTALLATION

    Sections:
    1. INSTALLING INVASIO BARBARORVM VII
    2. INSTALLING INVASIO BARBARORVM VII (Manual Install Version)
    3. HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT VERSION OF BARBARIAN INVASION (Vanilla) YOU ARE RUNNING
    4. HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT VERSION OF INVASIO BARBARORVM YOU ARE RUNNING

    1. INSTALLING INVASIO BARBARORVM VII

    1. make sure you have a fresh, unmodded install of RTW:BI
    2. make sure you upgrade BI to v1.6
    3. Run and install IBFD7 to the root directory
    4. Run and install the latest upgrade to the root directory (you can use JSGME for the upgrade if desired).
    NOTE:
-installer will automatically search for the proper folder so normally you shouldn't have to change anything
-the v7.0 installer will execute a batch file creating an 'ibfd' directory onto which all installations will be applied
-no core files will be overwritten, you will come out with a CLEAN, UNMODDED RTW&BI
-a shortcut will be installed on your desktop, it will have the '-show_err' and a '-mod:ibfd' switch

    MAKE SURE:
    =no mods modify '...\Rome - Total War\bi\data' OR '...\Rome - Total War\data'
=install v7.0 to the root folder, usually 'C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\', anywhere else would cause a faulty install

    Technical notes:
This is what the installer is doing
1-it will copy a folder called IBFD_temp to your root folder
2-it will copy a .bat file called IBFD_installer.bat to your root folder
3-it will create a shortcut on your desktop
4-it will trigger the .bat file after copying all the files
5-the .bat file will do the following
5a-it will copy the 'bi/data' folder and its contents rename it to 'ibfd/data'
5b-it will copy the files from IBFD_temp/data to ibfd/data
5c-it will delete the IBFD_temp folder and itself
    2. INSTALLING INVASIO BARBARORVM VII (Manual Install Version)

    1. make sure you have a fresh, unmodded install of RTW:BI
    2. make sure you upgrade BI to v1.6
    3. copy the whole 'bi' folder
    4. change the name of the new folder from 'copy of bi' to 'ibfd'
    3. Run the installer (preferably to the root directory to build the proper shortcut) - installer will install to a folder called 'ibfd_TEMP'
    4. manually copy all the files from 'ibfd_TEMP' to the new 'ibfd' folder, overwrite all.
    5. you may safely delete 'ibfd_TEMP
    3. HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT VERSION OF BARBARIAN INVASION (Vanilla) YOU ARE RUNNING

To find out what version of BARBARIAN INVASION you are currently running
    1) start up ....
    4. HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT VERSION OF INVASIO BARBARORVM YOU ARE RUNNING

To find out what version of INVASIO BARBARORVM you are currently running
    1) start up INVASIO BARBARORVM
    2) go to single player->main campaign
    3) the campaign name will reflect the version name so it should read 'INVASIO BARBARORVM v7.03', etc.

    THE OPTIONS FOLDER

INVASIO BARBARORVM has an 'Options' folder where the player can choose from several alternative set-ups

    Sections
    1. LOCATING THE 'OPTIONS' FOLDER
    2. AVAILABLE OPTIONS
    3. HOW TO INSTALL THE OPTIONS
    4. HOW TO UNINSTALL AN OPTION

    1. LOCATING THE 'OPTIONS' FOLDER

The options folder can be found in '...ROOT FOLDER*\ibfd\options'

*the ROOT FOLDER may vary, it is usually 'C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\'
    2. AVAILABLE OPTIONS
    A. CAMPAIGN GAMEPLAY
    ALL FACTIONS - OSTRO HORDE
In this campaign, The Ostrogoths are a horde, presenting a very immediate threat to the ERE. With the Huns and the Ostrogoths exerting pressure on the ERE, the faction becomes a bit more challenging.
It is a bit ahistorical, though as the Ostrogoths were under the Huns at the time, and would start their migration very, very much later.
ALL FACTIONS - OSTRO SETTLED (default)
In this campaign, the Ostrogoths are settled and are threatened by the Huns, tests sometimes show the Ostrogoths surviving for a long time, sometimes conquered by the Huns in a short time, causing them to horde.
Though still not completely historical, this is a more reasonable approximation of the situation of the Ostrogoths and the Balkans in general at the time, the Huns are still threatening the ERE, the Ostrogoths are under the thumb of the Huns but can 'fight back' (as they actually did on the death of Atilla) or 'horde' anytime (as the Visigoths did).
    SHADOWING - SPAWNING ON
In this campaign, the Ostrogoths and Imperium Constantini (WRR) are unplayable. The Ostrogoths are spawned from a rebellion among the Huns, 'Shadowing' between IC (WRR) and WRE is enabled.
For the Balkans, this a more historical situation at the start, but the Ostrogoths actually spawn very early, on the first few turns (Hun AI). In the west there is a challenging defection/counter-defection w/c unfortunately reaches up to Africa and the Balkans, making it a bit ahistorical...
    B. INTERFACE
    ARBACES' INTERFACE
Arbaces' Interface, feels very dark, very Arbaces
    IBFD7 INTERFACE (default)
a mix between Arbaces' Interface, Mylae's Interface, and RGyG's stuff
    MYLAE'S INTERFACE
    IBFD6 Interface
    C. INTRO MOVIE*
Unfortunately, the intro movie seems to be hardcoded to the bi folder (if anyone can find out how to change this to a 'mod' folder pls PM me-RGyG

    CA INTRO MOVIE (default)
    IBFD INTRO MOVIE
*Enabling this option overwrites files in the vanilla BI folder.

    D. LOADING SCREENS

    Undoctored in-game caps from IBFD7 and IBFD6
    JUVES SCREENS1
From Juve, IBFD coder, Load screens featuring representations of Battles from the Era

    4TPY script

    VANILLA SKIES

    CA VEGETATION
Well, u must've seen the Giant Sequoia forests... and the sparse vegetation...
    IBFD7 VEGETATION (default)
Modified Anyan's vegetation, some complaints are the too big rocks, some units getting stuck... personally I still prefer it over Vanilla
    3. HOW TO INSTALL THE OPTIONS

-simply double click the option, it will install automatically. allow it to overwrite any files
-the options will be installed to the 'ibfd' folder and will NOT overwrite any Vanilla files EXCEPT

-as an option is installed, a text file with the name and short description of the installed option will be installed to the 'ibfd' folder
    4. HOW TO UNINSTALL AN OPTION

-there is no uninstall per se, simply overwrite the option with another option

    - TW-fanboy´s Roman Offices submod -
    Made by: TW-fanboy
Description: Enables the Roman offices for all Roman factions for IBFD 7.03, and includes an Office Guide for the Roman factions.
Discuss and Download: - Here -

    - Information -

    This is an easy submod:
Every Roman faction can acess any Roman office. In vanilla IBFD 7.03 the Western Empire can't get offices like magister militum per orientem and the Eastern Empire couldn't get the offices like praefectus praetorio Italiae. That sucks, if you want to reunite the empire (as I do). So I changed that. But there still can be only one man holding an office, so if you, as the Western empire, conquer all European territories of the Eastern empire, but an Eastern Roman Character still holds the office of praefectus of Illyricum, you have to kill him in order to get access to it.
Here is the office guide for Roman factions including my submod:

    I Praefects:
Italy: A general in Neapolis with at least Management 2, Influence 2, Loyalty 3, Command 2

    II Court offices
Magister Memoriae: A general in Rome (Western empire) or Constantinople (Eastern empire) with at least Management 2, Influence 3, Loyalty 4

-Tweaked all Faction Leader names so they're better... well from my point of view anyway. You have Emperors for the Roman Empires, Chieftains for the tribes, and Arkah for the Armenians, basically. I removed the word "Faction" because I didn't like that.
-Revamped the Armenian names, took out the Urartian vestiges, added names more appropriate for the timeframe.
-Changed starting situation in Armenia to make it more accurate. Changed Atropatene to Paytakaran, and Phraaspa to the city of Paytakaran, which was the historic easternmost Armenian province as opposed to Atropatene. Changed Sipan to Vaspurakan and gave it to Armenia, made it a Christian settlement.
-Took out "Persarmenia" and "Persarmenian" and replaced them with "Armenia" and "Armenian." I don't believe they ever referred to themselves as Persarmenians, though I know it's a way to distinguish them from Roman Armenians. Personally I didn't like it.
-Changed province "Armenia" to "Ayrarat" and the settlement from "Artaxarta" to "Vagharshapat." Made it the capital, as it was. Also changed province "Greater Armenia" to "Syuniq" and the settlement became "Shaghat."
-Made the Armenian king "Vramshapuh" and the heir "Artashes" (historical)

SCREENSHOTS- Good king Vramshapuh is here! He reigned until 417 and during his reign (in 405) the Armenian alphabet was created.

And here's the heir, Artashes IV. He didn't have an easy time of things historically.

And here's the new more smooth-looking historical Armenia with my map edits. You can see Vagharshapat, the capital. I also gave it a Christian cathedral (to represent Etchmiadzin). Atropatene has been replaced with Paytakaran, a smaller province.

I made a logical change to the offices of the great empires (Rome and Persia). In vanilla IBFD, there were minimal attributes required for a character to gain an office. But if you think about it: You are the emperor/king of kings! You should be able to give offices to anybody you want, regardless how competent he is (actually, many incompetent men held high offices in history). So now these requirements are gone. If you send a man to Alexandria and there is no comes aegypti, this man will get the office.

This submod includes my office submod for the Romans.

All credit goes to the artists of the RS2 team.
To install them simply copy the data folder and paste it in your: Rome - Total War\IBFD folder and replace the files when asked. You may also need to delete your map.rwm file located in: Rome - Total War\ibfd\data\world\maps\base
The game is tested more then 100 turns and works fine but make a back-up copy just in case as i will not take responsibility for broken games or corrupt save files.

NB: Game is tested without any of the optional downloads, i am not sure if it is going to work correctly with any of them including the soundmod!
