    klesh's Historical Battles

The Royal Scots Greys charge the Grand Batterié at Waterloo and are met by Polish Lancers.

This mod changes the unit rosters and experience levels of the units in the Napoléon's Battles section of the game.
It will be a continual work-in-progress and I am very open to community suggestions of better rosters for all of the battles.

    Battles Currently Available:
Waterloo (French Player) - Features the Royal Scots Greys & Imperial Guard Cavalry!

    Changes to British roster:

    • Replaced 1 Cavalry Unit:
      • Royal Scots Greys* replace Dragoons

    Changes to French roster:

    • Replaced 4 Cavalry Units:
      • Polish Guard Lancers replace Chevau-légers Lanciers
      • Empress Dragoons replace Chevau-légers Lanciers
      • Grenadiers à Cheval replace Cuirassiers
      • Guard Chaussers à Cheval replace Chaussers à Cheval

French cavalry roster taken from here; though I added the Polish Guard Lancers from memory, I could be wrong.

    Changes to Prussian roster:

    • None

*This will put the Royal Scots Greys in the battle if you legitimately have them as a pre-purchase unit from Steam. It will not unlock them!

    Coming Soon!

    • New FR & GB versions of Waterloo featuring Imperial Guard Artillerié.
    • Additional Historical Battles as I do them. Any suggestions? My personal preferences are for Austerlitz & Borodino.

Obviously adding stronger units to either side may upset the balance of the originally designed battles. This can be countered by either adjusting the experience levels of the opposing faction's troops, or adding stronger unit to the opposing faction's roster. I am completely open to community suggestions as to how to balance these historic battles while adding flavour by means of more-varied rosters.

This mod is perfectly legal as if you don't have the content (I don't) it does not unlock them/

Out of curiosity, what happens? Since I have the pre-order from Steam, I can't test what occurs when you load it not having the Scots Greys.

I will be doing other Historical Battles as well, and I'll be making different versions for dlc vs. non-dlc.

Also, I am considering making different unit size versions, as I know alot of people complain about the small unit sizes in some battles.

I'm not really sure. I'll check and see if I notice any difference.

OK, note that I am not very good at this game, but here's what happened.

If you watch the intro, the troops in Papolette fire immediately. Anyway, D'Erlon charged straight into the stakes, the artillery aimed at my houses and did nothing, but I still lost. (I never played it before though, maybe a better player should try it?).

Oh, and all the troops change apart from the Scot's Greys, so you're cool.

Ahh, perfect; so it didn't crash on you? I haven't changed any of the actual scripting of the battle, so the troops will act as CA intended them in the original battles.

Do you recall (or could someone tell me) the British cavalry lineup if you don't have the Scots Greys? I figured the game would crash without the Scots Greys, but it doesn't. Does it fill in a generic unit or leave them off the field?

It just uses normal Dragoons for me. But all the French units were there, Empress Dragoons and stuff.

Anyway, I like this mod, I'll rep it tomorrow when I'm able to rep (I think)

Oh thats fantastic, the Dragoons are what the Scots Greys replace. This means I needn't create a 2nd version for those without them, thats a nice bonus for me!

I have a new version ready that replaces the French artillery with Artillerie a Pied and Artillerie a Cheval. I played a quick few minutes and they weren't overpowering at all.

I'm thinking I should do a version that uses Ultra-sized units as well (200 line, 90 Cav etc)...

Good start, I hope that some day the mod may go as far as editing the battles themselves

You're welcome! Let me know if you have any problems or suggestions.

Austerlitz is 95% re-done! I'll try to have it uploaded this evening.

I have swapped out Guard cavalry for much of the French, put Davout (as a unit of 60 Cuirassiers rather than a General's Bodyguard [though I could make him a 60-man General's Bodyguard too, but I want him to actually fight with those Cuirassiers]) at Tellnitz, put an artillerie a pied in place of the 12lb'er closest to Napoleon. For the Russians, I have changed their cavalry to be more diverse (Cossaks, Hussars, Cuirassiers & Dragoons) as well as put in a 10lb Unicorn on Pratzen heights in place of one of the 12lb'ers. I haven't changed any of the Austrians yet.

I got the oob info from here and here.

Before I upload this, I need to have some testing done.
Can you PM me if you would like to help test this and DO NOT own the Scots Greys & Elite Regiment pack.

It should take all of about 2 minutes for you to test.

    Thanks.

    Very nice, sir.

A very good idea. I myself was quiet dissapointed about the battle arangements in historical battles. The guys from total war
certainly didn´t make historical accuracy their prority because surely it would have been too difficult to realize, since it would among others require way more unit slots.

I´ll give your mod a try at once and give you a feedback in time. Thank you for your work.

Good idea recreating all battles in ntw, to make usable square formation and for "epic-movie" aspect of the game i see it like 400 men per unit and 160 per cavalry, my favourite is Borodino theme but would like to see all battles recreated in one pack.
    greetings!

I could definitely redo Boroino with that scale of unit sizes!

No one has PM'ed me to help to test, so this mod is pretty much on hold until I can get a tester to help.

If this was addressed already i apologise for repeating it,but were the unit counts changed at all for your modification???for as it stands right now the numbers are dreadful small when looking at the scope and impact of the battles here represented

    Hi,

I have been so busy lately, I haven't even thought about Napoleon:TW. Life can get crazy sometimes.

Anyway, to answer your question ChevalierIX:

These battles are set up in an interesting way; each unit is placed by a script and the size of each unit is changeable. So, you could, in theory, make one army have units 2x the size of the other, or make everyone have units that are 3x the size of vanilla.
Or really, any combination thereof. The plan here was to go through and change all the battles I wanted, then to go back through that list making huge unit sized versions. I have a paltry rig to play on so I use large unit sizes only (160-man line), but I know some folks like having 500 man infantry units. That's really quite easy to do.

    Hi everyone!

Well, I'm back fiddling with NTW again, and this time I have a new computer! I will be going through this mod again and making a version that is for extra large unit sizes.
I currently play with a 2.5 unit modifier, so my units look like this:

    General: 60
Artillery: 5 guns, 30 men (all other variations leave you with spare artillery crewmen running around, unless you go with something crazy like 10 guns/60 men per arty unit).
    Cavalry: 150
    Skirmishers: 200
    Grenadiers: 300
    Line: 400

I've already tried Waterloo with this setup and it works great! I will however have to redo some of the deployments as the extra men force some weird deployment shapes.

I also have redone Austerlitz as well.

Eventually I would like to create some brand new Historical Battles, but that is very ambitious at this point.

That's great, the small unit sizes are quite silly in the battles. I assume they did it to keep them short.

Even 160 infantry and 60 cavalry would be better!
