That is truly one of the great truths of RTW

I'm not so young as you might think, 22. My favorite thing about the ancient era is the huge battles, so l want big armies. Also in 1 turn the recruitment is not historical (80 men in a city for 4 months, in 4 turn per year).
So maybe for me the truth is in the middle No stack spam, and no 300men battles.

Historical is very often crap when talking about gameplay and playability...
As you said, the game, like any TW game, is made for 1Turn and doesnt matter how many times we turn
around the 0Turn to look at it from any possible side...it simply doesnt feel right.
Big Armys ?..I mean...how big can an army become ? ...20 units with max 240 per unit...so max size is 4800 men per stack..thats something which applys to 0 and 1Turn without a difference.
I never played on less than max settings in any TW game...
I still wait for the day when they will make Rome II where Legions will have their original size of about 10.000 men (after the reform they where 10 kohorts 4800 men +
aprox 6000 men auxilia )...I make sure to have a new rig the day they would release the game

Thats your personal taste (which obviously some share).
Though I often tried mods with 0-turn recruitment and didn't like it, I must say RSII 0-turn is the bester TW experience I ever had!

I now use one of tone's mods, but that just made the game better I even loved it without the mod!

    oh, ok
My real dream (since Age of empires 1 and Caesar 3) was to be able to control whole legion (59 centurys of 80men in 10 cohorts) with few auxiliary cohorts, and to have huge tactical battles against outnumbering barbarians. Sometimes to deploy more legions. Not just vexillationes. For me this is the ultimate RTW (l'm praying for R2TW).
In RTW l interpret the "cohort" as a century, so for a real cohort l need 6 centurys. It's quite slow process in 1 turn campaign just to train one cohort. Not to mention if you want to wage war on several fronts.

Hello, l don't know where to post this question, l don't want to start a new thread:
How the defense stance affects the unit? I mean, does it increase the defense stats, is the attack reduced? What happens technically in the engine?
Sorry if i post in the wrong place?

The men stay tightly packed and don't push, therefore unit stays "fresh" most of the time because only the men in front fight.Using a unit in the def stance can't be used to push through, or flank, but it can hold ground with relatively low casualties. As far as I've noticed the stats of the unit doesn't change.
