    Default Stainless Steel 6.3 crash 1150

    I have started early compaigna with big's grim reality IV, with Norway.In 1150 ad have this error:Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.The game is good installed, have disabled big's grim reality and game crash.Please help me.Sorry my english.

    Delete the mod's folder and reinstall it without Byg's Grim Reality should fix it.

    Then you are in business. When you deleted/uninstalled Byg, your saves are no longer compatible.

    Patroclo, did this help you? I seem to have a very similar situation which has now caused my three different campaigns all to crash at summer 1150, just before the rebel "side" had a turn. The error is the same: "Unspecified error - needs to close"

    M2TW set up:
    Latest patches from yesterday (1.3) + Medieval Total War Kingdoms Expnsion pack and SS6.2.
    (I'm going to feel utterly silly, if it turns out that I shouldn't have installed Kingdoms. I tried to do
    search on the forums regarding that, but frankly I suck at such...)

    I'm running:
    Intel 6850 + Early 8800 NVIDIA (new drivers)
    4GB memory
    Lots of Hard disk

    I've always turned all advice of, and have made sure to install SS6.3 twice.

    1st campaign:
    Sicillians, early campaign:
    Savage AI
    Permanent Arrows
    Watch Towers
    Crashed irreversably (even though I loaded many times) approx 1150

    2nd campaign:
    the same +
    Grims AI
    Crashed at 1150 stat.

    3rd Campaign
    with out Grims AI
    Crashed again at 1150

    I'm now trying to do this with out Grims AI and using only Savage AI,
    nothing else.

    I noticed something peculiar:
    Every time the game seems to crash the memory usage is very close to one GB.
    I tried to get a readable memory dumb from the moment the program displayed the error,
    but when I got a debugger attached the program fell from underneath. I also remember
    seeing clear instructions on how to get some trace out of the game, but again I have to
    apologise for finding them again...

    lapanen, did you install the 1.5 patch for Kingdoms as well? I didn't see it listed in your post....

    Also could you list which other mods you've installed besides SS 6.3 please? Thanks!

    Add:
    No other mods, beyond SS6.3

    second add:
    I'll also reinstall SS6.3 after that patch has been applied.

    Thanks. If I've no read everything correctly this should be clear situation. If it doesn't work, I'll uninstall everything and start from the beginning.

    Wait, you say you have no other mods? What about Savage AI and Grim AI?

    Those seemed to be a part of the SS6.3. I needed to install only the SS6.3 package to be able to "turn them on" from the setup prog. I've changed those only when starting a new campaign (and I've understood that all the old saves are then broken or at least not compatible with the new setup)

    But, yeah, they are different mods...

    Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't played around with SS so I wasn't aware that those mods were bundled with it.

    Yep, actually a really convenient way to make sure inform people that those mods are combatible.

    Nope, the fourth crash in the year 1150, summer. The same error. I'll uninstall the prog, delete all saves, folders - etc and reinstall. This time I'll make sure that there's no mixups with anything. Would this be the correct (tested) order of installation?

    Medieval 2: Total War
    M2TW updates, up to 1.3
    Kindoms
    Kindoms update 1.5
    SS6.3 installed twice

    Install Stainless Steel without the submods and try it. You maybe getting a conflict with the submods.

    Ok, so M2tw+kindoms+ss6.3.

    I think the setup at the end of the install forces me to choose one AI from the list of included mods. Would Savage be ok? It seemed nearest to what I'd like...

    I have not downloaded 6.3 but I did not install any of the submods in it. 6.3 installer could be different.
