Spanish/Holy Roman or Dutch. The shield is a clue.

Well that shield makes me think Bavaria or Dutch but it also makes me think of some northern Spanish province.

The ammount of "?" is a clue too? lol
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

Who the hell thinks that it's Polish? It's obviously Spanish but the guy could easily be German or Dutch as well. My first thought was Ambrogio Spinola.

Could it be, "The firsts to invent and use those armors were the italians during the XV century, so our man is from Italy ?
At least the letters match, and of course, at this century, I mean Italy as a geographical concept...

    Yes! +rep! for you!

He is Gian Luigi Fieschi belonging to one of the most ancient aristocratic families
of the Most Serene Republic of Genoa!
The motto of the insurrection against Andrea Doria was 'Gatto et Libertas!' or Cat and Freedom,
being the the feline the araldic animal of the family. The man died, boarding an enemy Doria's galley in the harbour of Genoa, wearing full armor he drowned, his corpse has been never found.
The palace of the Fieschi family was destroyed by the foundations by order of Andrea Doria.
The real objective of the insurrection against Andrea Doria was leaving the alliance with Spain and Charles V, passing to the French side.

    To you the next!

    Compliments!
