Nukes...

Noobish question.
I've always wondered why nobody in the 40k universe ever uses nuclear weapons or bombs or grenades.
I realize that there are many other more advanced weapons to use, but nukes would still be effective and cause less collateral damage than some of the other weapons. The science behind them is comparatively simple as well.

Nukes are pretty tame weapons in the 40st Millennium.

Especially with all the Nova Cannon, Cyclonic Torpedoes and Vortex nonsense.

It makes no difference either way. The planet is either left uninhabitable or completely glassed. And in the worst case scenario breaks apart and turns into a giant gas cloud. LOOOOL!

No, they give a damn. It is said everytime the Imperium commits Exterminatus either to cleanse a world of Daemonic taint or to stop a Tyranid Hive Fleet that they permanently lose a habitable world and that the Imperium feels such loss. Sometimes the Imperium will quarantine a world I guess in hopes of taking it back later.

I have also read the Imperium is running out of known habitable worlds to expand to.
