The connection is simple. they came, they conquered, they mixed. Only thing that remains from Ancient Macedonia, is the name. Other then that they are slavs TODAY

Macedonia only conquered teritory of FYROM, it was actually inhabited by Ilyrian tribe of Dardanians not Helenic ( Greek ) people of Macedonians

I just cant believe when I hear stories of Alexander being Slavic Macedonian in time when Slavs lived somewhere north of Scythians and no one even knew they exist

on the contrary they are! Go to blackan group forum and see what I and NikeBG have posted .I don't understand your strange perception that these are some separate from us ,every scholar from Rome,Paris,London,Berlin, Moscow knows that 85 % from the macedonians in FYRM are bulgarians the churches there are bulgarian ,the fortress, the language, customs .And the most importаn think they all identify them selfs as bulgarians before 1944.Why Macedonia is in the lands of the Bulgarian church in the turkish ferman from 1870 and i it was made оn free elections where the population could vote ? Why they vote for Bulgaria? Why they don't vote for Serbia or to stay with the greek ,or protest infront the sultan that they are "macedonians" and they want there own macedonian church,at that time the turks will accepted with joy, really why?- because they think them self for bulgarians that was how feels there fathers ,grandparents ,grandparents grandparents all back to the time of Kuber and his bulgars!

And Hrobatos why you don't go to the topic in Balckan group about Macedonia we have posted inaf there but obvliusly you don't want to see it

dude we are from Balkan, falscificating history is widely accepted among our societies, as it is used as political power

beacuse if you can prove that Macedonians are Bulgarians you think that you could get Macedonia into Bulgaria, you are being propaganded by your state and society, and you are spreeding it
I'v seen it manny times here in Yugoslavia, even here where we get in flaming disscusions about Bosnian Kingdom, krstjani and such...

its not really hard tp recognize it, I mean, you claim that Macedonians are Bulgarians, that half of Serbians are actually Bugarians... you are like those Turkofils who claim that everyone from China to Adriatic Sea is Turkish

who is next? Romanians? Greeks? Turks?Croats?

give it a break, only one in the world who believe that Macedonians are Bulgarians are Bulgarians and some Bulgarofils, not even Macedonians them self dont believe that

anyway I will not continue this disccusion as long as you are filled with that propaganda material

Macedonians are no longer Serbs or Bulgarians. Both nations held macedonia for sometime. They are mixed between the two... generally speaking

or there is also posibility that they were part of lower Danube Slavs who never got Bulgarian name, and as rest of smaller slavic tribes such as Bosnians, Diocleans,Zahumlians, Neretvans and others, they took name by region they lived in, and they lived in Macedonia so they became Macedonians

fact that they are lover Danube Slavs explains language similarities with Slavs from later Bugaria, who are also lower Danube Slavs

in other hand Croats,Serbs and other "Yugoslavian" Slavs are upper Danube Slavs which is why they have similar language

well that statement makes sense... Just instead "yugoslavian" its considered as "Serbo-Croatian" group
Yugoslav is generally a term for all slavs in the balkans
    yugo=south

yugo=south in latin if i recall correct
this is what Im trying to say all along, Croats, Serbs and Bulgarians arent only Slavs on Balkan
because claiming that except Bulgarians, only Slavs are Croats and Serbs, simply means rejecting Macedonians, Bosnian Muslims or Montenegrians as nation, and forcing them to choose between three options they have.

Sometimes I just hate to be from Balkan...

Hey here's an idea, let's talk about Medieval balkan coat of arms.

Call me crazy but that's what the thread is about, and personally I am curious to see if anybody has information regarding medieval serbian heraldry; and I don't just mean the Nemanjic coat of arms I mean localized heraldry. Frustratingly I can't find any information about it on the web...

um, macedonians are actually bulgarians and partly serbians, but more bulgarians.
macedonian nation is product of 19th century, the birth of macedonian nation. so as for the montenegrinians, which are serbs.
