Yes, Guthrum is only "king" of East-Anglia.

I do not know how works anc in TLK, but in VI2/DoB king´s title has not anc. for king´s titles are only traits which give to King influence.
    sorry my english.

Perhaps that might be indeed the point, that provokes an update, or better said a second setup for the start situation (= extra campaign), just with its own subtitle and reflection, which considers The Burning Land and the upcoming novel ... if i still mod in 2011.
Hi again, Yes, thanx, Constatin. I couldn't remember if it was a Constatin or a Malcom.

Well, you could mod more at your leisure, but I bet you'll like the novel & the mod bug will bite you. Hopefully anyway!!

Is "The Last Kingdom" also playable with factions other than Wessex or the Danes (maybe after altering the descr_strat.txt)? Haven´t downloaded it yet. And can anybody tell me what it´s gameplay experience is like and what makes it different from DoB - gameplay, units, scripts? etc... (only read the infos in the 1. post of this thread)? THX!

Well, it's for fans of the bokks, and the starting situation has changed. There are characters from the books like uthred, Ragnar Ragnarson and Beocca. Actually, you can roleplay with Uthred, and most of England is controlled by the Danes. Only Wessex and the Danes are playable, although you can enable the others in descr_strat. The Danish recruitment has changed, most units are now recruited from ports, and only karls (and some regional units) are recruitable from the barracks. There are new units (from Norman invasion, I think).
All in all: If you know and like Bernard Cornwells Saxon Chronicle, you should give this mod a try.

    @TW-Fanboy:

I´ve heard about Bernard Cornwells Saxon Chronicles, and I once nearly ordered the first part, as it sounded like an interesting read. But I went for "I, Claudius" from Robert Graves at the time if IIRC (although a completly different time frame).

Sounds rather interesting what you said - I might give it a try sometime. THX!

I actually have two installations of VI 2: one with dob and another one with tlk. TLK is kind of a reworked roleplaying version of dob, in my opinion al least.

2011 is almost here & sometime in 2011 (I thouhgt I would never live to be 25 or 30 or could even imagine the year 2000) Cornwell is to release the next (6th) novel in the series dealing with the Scots in part. That is the King Constatin of the Scots mentioned at the end of his last novel by DaVinci & I.

Ha ha ha!! there has to be a Scottish Malcom somewhere in the next novel I bet.

Still playing the Ver. 1.0 campaign & haven't upgraded to 1.1 yet. I look forward to doing so.

Happy Holidays!! Stay warm if possible. Hasta la vista (baby)!!

Hi chris, i'm quite away from this submod, other modders can take it over, if it suits somebody.
    Else, i wish you well

P.S. However i'm eager to read Cornwells newest Uhtred novel, though i haven't noticed any release-news in this regard.

Hello DV, Yeah, I actually read a message form Cornwell that stated the next/last book in the series is to be supposedly done in 2011, but what quarter I know not. I also forget where I read his statement at, but it might have been at his website, maybe?

Just finished ver1.0 & lost but am still playing after Uthred died of old age. Will overwrite with ver1.1 now & enjoy.

Oh, yes, I see in your sig info. that you are 'retired'. The RW I suppose. That has done me in somewhat over the years, but it looks like I am beating my lung cancer: 1 small tumor in left lung is gone by chemotherapy (rather uncomfortable, but not as bad as it was pre mid 1990's, & luckily I wasn't cancerous then, know many people that have died from various types of cancers), large tumor in right lung is seemingly reduced to just scar tissue by 37 radiation treatments & chemothpy., 2 infected lymphnodes completely cleared of cancer cells through combo rad. & chemo. However, lung cancer, both large & small (luckily I had large but ...) frequently migrates to the adrenal glands & brain. Possibly 1 adrenal gland may be infected but quite possibly not. If it goes to the brain it's all over, & I have known people that died from variety(ies) of brain etc. cancer(s) & it is painful etc. I have headaches now, but they are probably from other irritants such as winning many $G's then losing at the casinos, THE CAT, work or non-work, some people/creatures/ignoramusses(sp?), having to threaten the city with a near lawsuit to get my +$6G's tax return from them (pay taxes on jackpots at the casino, then lose, then get large tax return since losses are deductible for Feds. & City but not State (my state anyway). Fed. return was +$40G's. All gone now mostly, but tax time is just around the corner & therefore return $ are near. Feds. are decent & honest so far, the City is sometimes so but last year were lieing irritants. Use electronic Win, Loss, Jackpot statements from casinos' printouts generated from using player's cards at casinos in slot machines. 25% Fed. gaming tax (down 3% from 28% last year), 4.35% State & 2.5% City taxes, they add up. Was a combined ~$350 per thousand tax on jackpots ($1,200 & above), now is a combined ~$320. Whopee, now get $30 break per thousnad. It's OK but there should be only a 5 or 10% Fed. tax, no local taxes, as it is in Canada a few miles away.

Uthred was a gambler. he told me so over the space/time waves/ether/whatever. Need to add a gambling establishment to mods. It would be realistic. King Alfred etc. wouldn't approve, unless there was a realm gambling tax of course.

Ciao, & Happy Holiday Season & many more to come, New Years also, lunar or otherwise.

    I'll try...

Make a backup of your VI2 folder.
Once you've downloaded the submod, unpack the archive to your desktop, or wherever.
You'll now have a readme, and another archive.
    Unpack that archive
    - either directloy to your \rome total war\bi directory, letting it overwrite files
    - or unpack to your desktop, and manually copy the vi2 folder into your rome total war\bi directory, again letting it overwrite files as necessary.

Launch VI2/DoB as you normally would, the main menu should now tell you that you're running the TLK submod, and you're ready to go.

(Not to take anything away from DaVinci, but his Denglish can be pretty bad at times, making some of the ingame descriptions rather cringeworthy, and also rendering the install instructions more complicated than they need to be)

The book is here! As soon as I finish moving me and my family on the other side of the ocean, I'll start reading and playing the mod.
