Standard line infantry of whatever country you're playing. The sheer usefulness is impossible to deny.

Well, they do have their moments, especially when you spam them all over the enemy, aye Old chap?

It's not even spamming to have most of the units in your stack be line infantry. The thing is that, when handled correctly, there's not a noticeable difference between line infantry and elite line infantry. The units they fight may be broken a few seconds sooner, but that doesn't change how the battle is won or lost, especially given the limits there usually are on recruiting elite units. Line infantry in general are still going to be the backbone of most of your people.

I agree Old chap, they are far more readily available, which is a good thing, and when provided with the right circumstances, they do live up to their reputation.

Windbuse Jagers (however you spell them). So deadly, and sneaky.
Still Hussars, Old bean cut your Jaegers in two.

As fond as I am of the heavy cavalry such as cuirassiers, once they've done one or two good charges they're largely blown and take a while to recover. They're decisive when used properly, great for turning the cavalry fight in your favor.
However, the most casualties come in the end game, and thats when the hussars (or for the French the Chaussers a Cheval since they don't have a regular Hussar unit other than the one special) make their money: devistating fleeing infantry to ensure that you never have to fight that particular regiment ever again.
I do have a soft spot for 12lb Cannon too and the huge holes its canister opens in the enemy ranks too.
Hard for me to have one favorite as my tactics rely on combined arms, but if I had to pick favorite units for esthetics it'd be the French cuirassiers and Chaussers a Cheval of the Guard.

As far as cavalry goes i prefer heavy cavalry, like cuirassiers and that lot.
I like the Chaussers a Cheval as well.
Light and fast, they are like a good group of hussars. Perfect for mowin' down swaths of fleeing cowards.
They can sit still and shoot (especially over the heads of friendly defenders).
Put them in melee mode and charge a unit and they'll shoot right before they hit with the charge.
The CaC guard unit is great but you only get one of them, 3 CaC's in a stack can devastate a broken army.
