You seem to have a pretty lofty opinion of Stannis. He has a very strong sense of Justice, yes, but that is actually a hindrance to him. He lets it blind him to reality He expects people to believe things like the fact that Joffrey is a bastard without any proof just because it is true. How do they know it is true, because he says it is?! He has a very lofty opinion of himself and I think he is somewhat arrogant. He also expects people not to care that he is asking them to abandon their religion because he is the rightful heir and he just expects everyone to love him and want him to be their ruler. He does not have a feasible plan to win the kingdom to his side until the end and repeatedly alienates people to boot. Because he is an atheist, he does not realize how much importance people put on religion and that is why he was easy prey for Melisandre in the first place. Melisandre came to him knowing exactly what she needed to say to get him on her side. She stroked his ego by telling him that he is a promised hero and sure enough, he saw more benefit to him in changing his religion because of it. Yes I do not like Melisandre and I believe she thinks she is doing Rh'ilor's work but she in fact is not. I think she will eventually turn into one of the great villians of the books, but I also do not like Stannis. The man has his sword rammed so far up his that he cannot bend without cutting himself on his sense of justice. I do not trust his motives and believe he has something up his sleeve and ulterior motives that he does not let on.

All the reasons I love the guy!

A character with ulterior motives in a GRRM novel? Surely you jest!

Yes, a lot of characters do have ulterior motives, such as Littlefinger (who I also hate), but with just as many, you know exactly what they are after, that is why Daenarys is my favorite character and the person I hope eventually wins the throne. Not only is she the rightful ruler, she is also the best person for the job at this point and because she is a point of view character, you usually know exactly what she is after

While I can understand not having a House Frey playable faction, how about having it an unplayable faction? They're certainly the most important minor house, the only other minor house that could ruffle a few feathers is House Bolton.
Do you play Morrowind? Do you like old castles, ferocious hairy beasts, expansive wintry forests, and killing dark elves?

Then check out Skyrim: Home of the Nords! A mod for TES III: Morrowind.

I actually think House Frey should be a playable faction. It would be a unique challenge for players, as you would start out as a small fry sandwiched between three great powers and have to pay a delicate game of diplomacy to ensure you did not get crushed. For example, you should start out as a vassal of House Tully and thus ally of house Stark and have to play a delicate balancing act between the two until you are strong enough to take them on. To make matters worse, You would also have the Arryns to deal with, making this a great challenge for advanced players

A bit off topic here but i haven't seen any approximation as to when this 1.0 version will be released, so if anyone would be so kind as to answer this for me.

I believe the mod is currently on a go-slow since the modellers/texturers are busy with other projects, and until they return or new ones are recruited, it will be impossible to give a date for 1.0's release.

I have a suspicion we may have to wait until either the release of ADWD or the arrival of the TV series generates a resurgence of interest in the project, although I have said that before and then a new modeller arrived and suddenly a lot of progress is then made, so who knows?

I seem to remember the last book came out a few weeks before christmas two years ago, i was hoping Martin's marketing crew would issue a similar strategy but as far as i've seen and heard so far, Martin has yet to finish ADWD. Has there been any news as to when the pilot of the series might be aired?

As for the factions, i would also like to see at one point, maybe as an emerging faction ... the brotherhood without banners with Beric, Thoros and lady Stoneheart (in the mods manage to find a solution to women generals), and also something like a mongol invasion made up of a force of dothraki, unsullied, and similar western troops, it would bring a much desired variety in faction troops and the need to employ different strategies and recruitment when facing them. Even if the part with dany is not included in version 1.0 i think most of the players will enjoy a little more spice and pepper and these emerging factions would do a lot of good.

I do not think they should start making unplayable factions, as they are EXTREMELY annoying. In Vanilla, I want to play as the Papal States, The Mongols and Timurids. If they make the factions you suggested, they should be playable. Also, the Brotherhood should be represented as several rebel armies, since they do not really qualify as a faction. Daenerys should be playable, as she is a legitimate claimant to the throne, not some announce

I get your point, but all throughout this thread the master complain was that they could not include a playable faction under dany in this version, so until such a version or add-on or different mod is done i would enjoy fighting some more characters ignored thus far but which i deem rather important, and would also welcome the sight of some new and interesting troops to fight at least if not control.

I'd also like to see some mercenaries that could be hired (sellswords if you will)

I agree with you about the mercenaries. The lack of mercenaries to hire is a major handicap of this mod. Better yet, you should be able to hire mercenary generals. These would represent characters such as Bronn and Vargo Hoat

Crannogmen and even wildlings for stark regions, burned men, black ears etc for the arryn regions, some exotic troops for king's landing and storms end assuming they have more intentions to interact with the free cities, i'd really like to see some dothraki screamers, unsullied or other types of troops from the eastern free cities, common sellswords and freeriders from whichever region does not have anything special to offer mercenary wise.

Also i do not know if this is possible but i remember from rome total war that there were troops made up of fewer soldiers, if it can be implemented here it would be an awesome site seeing a super elite troop of the Kingsguard to be recruited only at king's landing, 7 white knights considerably superior to the rest, would be something interesting if it can be done.

Would it be possible for having the faction leader's bodyguard for King on the Iron Throne be a few white knights but the other generals being...I'm not sure what they would look like...Gold Cloaks? Lannisters? I don't know what sigils they would carry.

If the Kingsguard are put in, it should be as 7 generals for Joffrey's faction. If one of them dies, you should be able to appoint a new one from either one of your's or your allies generals.

Seven generals? Please tell me you're kidding.
No, better make the KG an ancillary that increases morale on the battlefield, decreases unrest or makes the king harder to kill (although that did not work out in the books...)
But seven additional generals would shift the balance of power grotesquely.

7 additional generals would not shift the balance. I did not say they should start with any men. They should be 7 generals because several members of the Kingsguard led men into battle. Loras Tyrell commanded the siege of Dragonstone, admittedly as a means of getting rid of him. There is also the case of Jaime leading the siege of Riverrun. You should start with the original 7 and if they die you have to fill their seats. How do 7 Generals who have no men tip the balance, you would still have to raise men for them to lead. Kingsguard men where considered high enough in rank to outrank any other commanders, thus they were essentially generals in the armies of the Iron Throne

Seven additional generals do not tip the balance??? You must be joking. Those are not just zero star, don't-know-nothing generals, those are high quality and high potential generals! Even having one of them makes a difference, not to talk of seven of them.
Of course they led men into battle, but including all of them ingame seriously imbalances the game. If you wanna have a look at what difference just one high star general can make, check the Third Age mod and try the Witch-King vs. some hundred Gondor soldiers. If you do it right, the Witch-King will prevail. (Same with the other Ringwraiths)
Now you multiply this might and power by seven - and that is supposed not to tip the balance?

I didn't mean it to be as 7 generals and most certainly not want them as a trait as they are now. I only suggested an interesting means of implementing something new tot this game and that would be a 7 man elite troop which can be trained only once and King's landing, i think it would make things a lot more appealing to all

Now that I think of it, you are right. However, the Lord Commander should be a general. That would mean making either Barristan Selmy (if the mod commences before he is dismissed) or Jaimie Lannister have that title at the start and one or both serving as members of Joffrey's faction. When they die, you should be able to appoint someone else to the position, either from yours or your allies faction and this should confer a command and loyalty bonus

    Now, that would make sense.
