This day will live with me forever, and I am now filled with a fury, they will soon not forget.

Two Days Earlier, City of Mahalla al-Kurba.
A young boy ran up to me, my guards held him back.
"Beyond the dunes, I saw something!", he shouted.
I told my guards to let him through. I knelt down.
"What did you see little one?", I asked.
He was out of breath, he must have been running for some time.
"I couldn't tell!" he remarked, I stood up.
"No there was something for sure, it made the sand raise up into the air, a mile away. It is like a monster crawls through the dust towards us!"
I looked over at Amir, my close friend and trusted adviser.
"Perhaps a sand storm." I told the boy. Amir made him run along.
He turned to me, eyes more open that I had seen them before. "Perhaps...", he paused. "Perhaps the British come?"
I stopped, looked around.
"The British will not come Amir, I am certain of it. They know that they cannot come out this far into our lands." I took a deep breath. We moved along.
Our caravan was to move east tommorow, to meet with the Ottoman Sultan no less. I feared the trip would have to be postponed.
While I was confident, I too was doubtful. Amir suggested we send a scout party, he told me of a British proverb. "It was better to be safe than sorry."
We sent the scouts, and I did not leave on my trip east. Instead I went to an outlying settlement, I waited for new from the scouts. The light turned to darkness, a quiet came over the land, I lay down my head.
One Day Earlier, City of Mahalla al-Kurba.
As I awoke, Amir entered the room. He paced back and forth before saying a word.
"What Amir, what is it?", I asked.
He stopped, he looked nervous. He told me that the scouts are extremely late.
We both realised what this could mean.
"Should we prepare for the worst?" I said rather calmly.
"Yes..", he sighed.
We both now made our way to the barracks. I glanced out out of the city, and to the dunes. As I did, over the top came a scout.
I stopped rushing, I shouted to Amir to look.
We looked at each other, then at dunes once more, and smiled.
I heard a quiet thud, the scout fell from his horse...
We froze. From behind the scout came another horse and rider. In his hand a rifle.
He was British. He wore a red coat, and held his rifle in one hand. Peering down from the dune into the city. Almost menacingly.
He turned and left, back down the other side of the dune.
We now ran to the barracks, screams could be heard from down in the city. As we got to the barracks, the men there where all rushing to grab their weapons. It soon hit me, we were not prepared.
Our foolishness in not expecting a British attack was going to cost us, this I was sure of.
Most men have spears. It took many much time to even find a weapon..
Everything went silent. Every man in the building stopped. Faintly, but surely, we could hear the British drums rumbling in the distance.
Amir rushed me outside, he told me quietly, "This battle is already done my friend."
I found myself sitting atop my horse.. as if he was moving me there. I looked down at him.
"Do not go east, ride south.. old friend." he said faintly. The men were now rushing out of the barracks, spear and shields in hand.
I knew this was goodbye.. He was going to stay and fight, someone needed to lead. He told me I needed to go and rally the army, to fight the invasion, that I had a more important place than here.
My horse began to move away, I peered back, Amir started to look smaller, I saw a soldier run to him and hand him a spear.
He raised his spear, facing me proudly. I turned away to guide my steed. I looked back, Amir was gone.
The battle was about to begin. The enemy now became louder, their soldiers soon came down the dune and into the city outskirts.
My horse started to gallop, I looked back, one last time.
I heard the thunder of a volley from a British line. That was the last time I have seen Amir or the city.
Battle of Mahalla al-Kurba, Gharbia
The British had won, the troops that remained to defend the city had perished.
They moved into the City, all its occupents hidden inside their homes.
The Mahdist troops stationed in the city, and not suprisingly, were destroyed.
No soldier fled, it makes me proud to be in charge of such men, and it makes my desire for revenge, all that much more.
The city was lost, and the region now under the control of the British. I traveled south, to meet my Generals.
Chief adviser, Amir al-Kalip was killed during the fighting, he charged with his men toward certain death, never weavouring for a moment, brave and honourable to the end old friend..
There were now many discussions to be had. Not with the British. I already know their fate.
To the south, our Army was busy confining the British within Khartum, they had not yet heard the news. Soon after I arrived, I made it clear to the men, the British... their fate.. is.. SEALED!!

Incredibly well written - well done! A fantastic start to a fantastic aar I may dare say. I've been waiting for an aar using the Khartum mod so that I can have a better look at it before I install it - do you recommend it?

It is extremely good! Its like a big free CA DLC.
It honestly feels like a new-ish game, a whole new theatre if you will.
Perhaps thats because I'v been playing WW1 mod a lot and have not played in Eygpt for a long while.
