    I just returned to playing NTW and as my old campaign no longer works (After 241 turns over several months work) I couldnt be bothered starting another campaign.. then I found this.

    I disagree mate!! the ETW and NTW is a lot better graphically, but for modding purposes it is also a nightmare!

    hmm I wonder if its possible to make the zulu throw their spears while they are charging at the British,would be rather excellent.

    Small problem here....I have just been informed that Zulus never had any throwing spears, they only had the short spear?? this information is from my brother who is an avid historian, is this correct? if were not looking for historical accuracy then thats fine.

    The Zulu warriors used a long version of the assegai javelin as their primary weapon from the Middle Ages, when it was imported from the Iberian peninsula into Africa. The Zulu legendary leader Shaka initiated military reforms in which a short stabbing spear, with a long, swordlike spearhead named iklwa had become the Zulu warrior's main weapon and was used as a mêlée weapon. The assegai was not discarded, but was used for an initial missile assault. With the larger shields, introduced by Shaka to the Zulu army, the short spears used as stabbing swords and the opening phase of javelin attack the Zulu regiments were quite similar to the Roman legion with its Scutum, Gladius and Pilum tactical combination.

    Weapons changes

    Shaka is often said to have been dissatisfied with the long throwing assegai, and credited with introducing a new variant of the weapon—the iklwa, a short stabbing spear, with a long, sword-like spearhead. It is said to have been named after the sounds made by its penetration into and withdrawal from the body. Shaka is also supposed to have introduced a larger, heavier shield made of cowhide and to have taught each warrior how to use the shield's left side to hook the enemy's shield to the right, exposing his ribs for a fatal spear stab. The throwing spear was not discarded but used as an initial missile weapon before close contact with the enemy, when the shorter stabbing spear was used in hand to hand combat.

    The Brigadier has beaten me to it anyway here is some information.

    Pre Anglo/Zulu war that would be correct Toon as Shaka forbid warriors to carry them. However in the war of 1879 they did use them. At Isandlwana a great number of spears were thrown at Durnfords men in the Donga by the Zulu regiments forming the left horn. In fact these very regiments have throwing spears in this mod. Some formations of British troops making a back to back last stand at Isandlwana were broken up with throwing spears.

    “In battle the troops were lightly equipped apart from a shield - any armour would have been impractical and useless anyway when facing European armies with guns. The elaborate dress seen in many films is a misconception and mainly ceremonial. Standard weapons were a short broad bladed stabbing spear and a heavy club, Shaka introduced the short stabbing spear and warriors did not carry spares so did not throw them in battle. Some regiments re-introduced throwing spears when facing the European and Boer armies but by this time they were also using looted firearms and primitive muskets traded to them by Arab traders.”

    I am having the same problem when I put the hotfix in the data folder nothing happens the textures stay the same and there are no explosive shells, where else do they go if not the data folder?

    battle_entities.tsv ((maybe Zulu's more reactive))

    projectiles.tsv (( the spear settings))

    unit_stats_land.tsv

    The spear rigid_model which is called "projectile_tomahawk.rigid_model" for the AI

    (+ one normal file , so the texture of the new face Umbonambi , look better)

    to install just import the tsv in the mod using erasmus PFM

    You need to use PFM Pack file manager to replace the files within the Khartum mod pack. If you do not know how to do this it would be best to wait until Kungfuserge updates the Beta again when im sure he will include all the changes.

    Don`t you think that units which are recruited from native british men [ highlanders , red coats etc ] should be recruited in one most important province [ f.e. alexandria ] as a reinforcements from Britain and should took more turns to do [ you know , transport ships etc. let`s say 6?] Other cities or villages conquered by brits could create only african native infantry [sudan felah in 2]?

    Those units are not Playable in Campaign so don't worry ; you will never meet the Zulu upon the Napoleonic campaign
