    What the hell?

Yeah Crowley apparently did a lot of sick s$%& in his mansions...the maids were reportedly afraid of him and what he did in his privacy. I saw a history channel special on Aleister Crowley and I've been reading up on him on the net for a while now. There are a lot of wild stories about his life...sometimes it almost sounds plausible if you ignore just how wildly fantastic the story is.

In my favourite fantasy world, Crowley was in no way a Satan worshipper. He knew that Satan was fake, therefore Crowley went then on to worship himself!

And who is Satan anyway? A Christian horror myth to denounce the Horned God of the Old ways - or Pan for that matter. Just as Jesus is in fact very similiar to Osiris and other old gods, who have risen from their graves.

I used to dig into the Celtic myths when I was younger, but I never have been a follower of any god.

I do indeed follow 'old Gods', specifically the Religio Romana, which is worship and ritual of the Roman pantheon.

Pan and Cernunnos and Baal are not Satan, although part of them is part of Satan. Baal especially, has a strong relationship with Satan.

That's what modern satanism is all about. They are their own satan, their own gods. So they indulge theirselves in order to please their god.
What can change the nature of a man?

the old religions are very much alive and well, and a lot of people don't worship them because they are fun, but do in fact taken it seriously.

justinian is correct, i'm a druidist, a follower of the druid religion of celtic europe, though different modern druid orders interpret this in different ways. some follow celtic/druid values and traditions in a modern world, others, like mine, literally worship and ask assistance of the celtic gods.
interesting, do you have anny links to pages discussing this revival of old religions? I wonder how strongly this is happening

I agree with Achilles47, the God of the Bible is the oldest since he created the Heavens and the Earth and everything in it.
Although if I were to worship a different God, I would be a follower of the God of my ancestors before they saw the Light. Woden.

didn't religions exist before he was ever mentioned that claimed their gods created the world or mankind, The Gilgamesj story is older then the bible, and it speaks of the gods, and the great flood. Ancient sumerian religions had things that later ocured in the bible, I'd say they are the oldest known gods. in the east, Brhamanism and Bhuddism preceded the Jewish god aswell and so did many others.

ps tBP: could you link to an article please

Buddhism? No way. Buddha lived from 566 to 486 BC. Judaism dates back long before that. As for Brahmanism (early Hinduism), I would expect that would be at around 1000 BC (roughly three thousand years ago), and Wikipedia at least credits Judaism with beginning something around four thousand years ago.

tBP has finally remembered to check this thread and will now post some links
tBP apologies for this lapse in pagan service, and wishes all customers of pagan.com a nice day

    Celtic Druidism at religioustolerance.net
other links on this page will take you to an analysis of other neopgan religions (as they call them)
note, not all druids and druid orders agree with this interpretation of our religion

Homepage of the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids

    Council of British Druid Orders
though to be honest, the council has become a bit of a joke recently, and no longer represents the views of OBOD or the BDO, with Glastonbury and Cotswold Druid orders being the only major druid orders still affiliated with it. they still oversee the arrangements for the use of Stonehenge though

Do you think that your opinion on that has any weight? You didn't even take a second look in what RZZZA wrote. :original: Perhaps your brain is way too tired and heavy to think what the guy wrote, and it's easier for you to just reject it, aye? Or put it in the category of 'Satanism' which you have already rejected.

I have news for you, my friend. The Christian religions make talk of Satan too! Isn't that monstrous? They mention Satan every now and then. In fact, they mention him so much that it makes me wonder, after a being a while in the church, who do we really worship!

As regards Crowley, I respect the fact that he was surely above the average human, and he was a terribly intelligent man, it's hard to deny him that. The spot where he lost the game is I think him being immoral, and thus losing the way to contact the rest of humanity right. After all, not caring about humanity, is not caring about yourself, in a way everybody is a part of everybody else. (by losing the game I mean that, at least to my opinion, he didn't achieve a status of existence as great as a man can achieve).

Regarding the old religions now: Jesus didn't say that he wants his religion forced on anybody, so the way that they snuffed out was shameful. I respect them, but everything goes together with a time period. Religion tends to be like science: it evolves as the time passes. For example I wouldn't want to worship a torch on fire like perhaps some primitive people did thousands of years ago. The old gods were merely stereotypes of the people that some really educated and knowledgable men needed in a society. Example: They needed noble warriors of knightly self-sacrifice (Tyr), they needed strong and healthy people, even if a bit strong-willed (Thor), they needed dedicated mothers with wisdom (Frigga), they needed people in contact with nature and the spirits of nature (Frey), they surely needed brilliant chicks being around (Freya ), they needed good and reliable generals/scientists/wizards/fathers/everything a mature old man can be (Odin), they even needed troublemakers, but troublemakers who stir the spirit and the thought of the people like a bumblebee wakes up a sleeper (Loki, Crowley, you could even say John the baptist).

Apologies for the long answer. :original:

i've always considered satanism a christian heresy not a seperate religion. afterall, satan is part of christian mythology. he's the devil, Lucifer the fallen angel and all that...
    satanism certainly isn't pagan anyways...
