Thread: AoD-Italy doesn't go Axis

    Default AoD-Italy doesn't go Axis

This is a puzzlement for me. My first game, I was Greece in 1936, and I was milking relations with Italy and Germany in hopes of joining the Axis. However, come September 1, 1939, it's just me and Germany sitting around in the Axis, no Italy, Japan, Hungary... nothing. I figured it must be because I annexed Albania (not allied at the time, mind you) and it threw off Italy's AI or something. So I loaded up a new game because without Italy in the Mediterranean I got gangraped, this time as Nationalist Spain, 1937. I beat the Republicans before Christmas, and then just sat there. I did nothing. This time, on September 1, it was Germany and Hungary. No Italy.

So what's the deal? Is it caused by me improving relations and trading with them? If so, that . If it was caused by the game, that harder.
I thought about writing something clever, but then I remembered I'm not clever enough.

Italy will go Axis when Paris falls to Germany.

Help Paris fall. And Italy will be all it can be. Which normally means losing 50 divisions in Africa, getting slapped by the Greeks in Epirus and losing most of its Navy.

If you can swiftly take Gibraltar and Suez, they may stand a chance.

Yeah I played a U.S.S.R. campaign, Paris fell in late 1940, Italy joined up mid-1941. It annoys me, but I guess it helps Germany expand since all Italy does is drag it down.

Yeah, Italy is kind of sad to watch

As Germany I send them lots of expeditionaries, and they manage to get them encircled and destroyed without fail.

Italy is sort of like the wimpy kid who picks fights, then has his big brother fight them for him.

Except this wimpy kid has no arms.

Oh they have the arms, just not the brain.

Military controlling Italy is easier than flooding them with expeditionaries.

Why not take military control of Italy with diplomacy?

I wish they'd bring out a more robust military control, one when you can take command of specific units, or take all control for yourself, or just the navy e.t.c.
