    Default Puzzled by Loyalty

    Is there a guide that discusses what causes disloyalty and what, if anything, you can do about it? I've looked and there are guides on strategy, units ect but can't find one on Loyalty. Is it just me or is it a serious problem keeping your generals loyal once your empire starts to get large and the King is far away. (I suspect it is me).

    There is no real guide to loyalty that I know of.

    Things that I have found that affect loyalty the most are faction leader's chivalry, and distance to capital. Part of them are built into traits and ancillaries, parts are hardcoded, parts are a roll of the dice.

    Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me will come along and explain it better.

    Some traits make generals less susceptible to disloyal acts. Chivalry and dread affect it, but in a different way. It all depends on the king. If the king has high dread chivalrous generals are more disloyal.

    Also the main skill affecting loyalty is your king authority. A king with weak authority invites trouble. So a king is best prepared long before he takes the crown. Use the heir to fight battles to increase his loyalty and the more famous he is, the more authority he's going to get. Take a look at my AAR for byzantines and see how I built each of my emperors one at a time.

    Distance from capitol is another factor which influences loyalty. It used to be a big problem, with large maps. The long distance invites rebellious characters to become disloyal. Some generals might get loyal traits by random chance. Is usually best to rotate generals and keep some at home until they gain enough close loyalty (Has the King Eye, King's Right Hand and so on) and then move them to take the place of generals that are far away and might get disloyal. I also find that generals married within the family are usually more loyal.

    Also a good way to increase loyalty is to give a general titles. Ancillaries like duke or count are great to increase loyalty.

    Original post Hi guys, i have played this mod a while and i think its one of the best mods for M2TW i know!

    The only thing which is dubious, is that u have a free upkeep in forts for 5 units! Thats a bit unrealistic i think.


    However, im a bit in trouble in my HRE campaing because the loyalty of 1/3 of my Generals is down to zero or minus lol.


    My question is, is there any guide for this amazing and extensive loyalty-system?


    If yes plz post the link. If not i will try to make one, depending on the time i can spend for this project.

    Loyalty distance effect
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 
    Keep all your new generals in between a distance of 45 titles to the capital, until they get the trait "Dutiful"! Then u will be safe and aviod penalty of the Far_distance_trait!

    If its urgency u can send the general away behind that 45 titles border if he own the trait "Has the King's eye", but not farther than 100 titles to the capital.

    Another protection against the
    Far_distance_trait loyalty penalty (a slightly one) is, if the general own a loyalty of higher than "3". But then, keep an eye on his loyalty every turn and send him back if its goes down to 3!!!

    CONCLUSION LOYALTY DISTANCE EFFECT:
    • Trait "Dutiful" or "King's right hand" means SAFE!
    • Trait "Has the King's eye" and "Loyalty 4" means OK for a while but ATTENTION!!!

    Thank you for the kind words.

    Loyalty is frustrating for everyone including me. I have three rebel family members right now. REDrake yanked out a portion that never did work. What is left I haven't had a chance to find out how much is in the traits and ancillaries and how much is CA's hardcode. Distance to capital plays a big role.

    Toning down this loyalty thing will make the whole game more enjoyable.
    I once played Spain, my king had level 6 or 7 in authority, no-one left the Peninsula and still had half my generals revolting. The first time I forgot to crown my new king in time, but the next time wasn't much better.

    Take the lines out of the EDA where they have to go home to be crowned should help some.

    I have noticed getting rebelling Generals back to the Capital to get them loyal, again, is not working.

    If you wish, before the next patch, take the capital lines out of the king/crown ancillaries. If not, I will.
    I hate getting the FH across the map and short of console cheats never get him home in time to get crowned when he becomes king.

    Movement point increase will not solve the problem in this case - the characters were given traits to reduce their movement close to zero.

    In general increased movement points leads to increased 'Turn around' time in the later stages of the game, due to the increased path finding calculations.

    Its not caused by CA hardcode stuff. Also an increase of movement points will not be adaquate to me.

    For the crown problem my sugesstion is. Just to add cities like Rome and Jerusalem (Madrid, Alexandria, Byzanz) to get crowned there if a local cardinal is present in that city.

    - FactionLeader visits Capital (for at least 1 turn)
    or
    - Priest w/Archbishop of the Realm Anc visits FactionLeader (for at least 1 turn)

    Well then don't have your heir somewhere distant and/or remote when your faction leader is at his late 50s.

    The settlement line for the crown ancillary is already in there. By the time I get to the starting FL's grandkids, the ancillary does not seem to fire right concernig Gereal's loyalty, though, so I commented them out so he could be crowned "on the road". Generals' loyalty tied to this ancillary is still not working as planned.

    With the settlement as the place to get crowned, I have had the new FL home in the next move, and still aint happening.

    After being disillusioned by loyalty, i've done abit of searching and figuring out and have a spoiler for people who are abit annoyed with their generals going rebel.

    i've been playing as genoa, my capital is genoa and my faction leader is in genoa. i had a family member (fl's younger brother) in marseille (next town down), who had his loyalty at full, i'd also transferred him some loyalty ancillaries. but he still manages to rebel for some unknown reason. so i thought i would narrow these rebel inspiring traits down!!



    Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 

    remove_trait "General's Name" Disobedient 2
    this will remove "Rebel!"
    IDisobedient 2
    this will remove "Rebel!", slightly different worded one, but the first one i think is the more common one
    Offensive_To_Nobles 2
    use this one on your faction leader to remove "Inspires civil war"

    give_trait "Generals Name" Obedient 2
    this will give your generals "Royalist", which should keep them loyal to king and country!!

    i hope this helps some people out there and doesn't offend too many!!

    I've had the faction heir go rebel too many times.

    I have also found out the forgive trait does not work for some reason when the rebel generals and family members get back to the capital.

    I have also had faction heir as rebel become faction leader and two turns later still rebel.

    I wish I had the answers.
