    Default Cities: Let's Have A Hybrid

    Ok. I have a request for the Shogun II team, and that is to make a hybrid version combining the major-city building part from games such as Rome and Medieval II and the minor-cities throughout the region style like in Empire.

    That was one of the only things I really liked about Empire over other games was the fact there were multiple cities throughout a region. The only downside, was I thought major-city building was too basic, bland, and boring. Barely any customization and everything was the same.

    So I ask that CA and the Shogun II team attempt to cross the two, where major-cities are build up building by building and these buildings are numerous, well-detailed, and have a good historical lesson behind them. Including special buildings if you would! While also retaining minor cities with their own special buildings and such.

    Also, bring back the ability to improve and upgrade cities, make them larger, unlock new build options, etc. etc. based on population and such. I'd hate to get stuck with little-major cities that never grow up to be big cities like they should.

    Oh yes definitely. It was something I really missed in empire. City building was too basic. If Shogun will have proper city battles than those buildings should be portrayed on the battle map and be destructible , just like in M2tw

    Imo the mark of a good game (and one of a good dev) is having depth without complexity. The more you put in the more you're able to get out. Automanaging and a few overlay screens before getting to the meat would allow the casuals to never have to get their hands dirty while rewarding the guys who want to dig and mess with sliders and all other minutiae.

    Agreed about the more than one city and the thread's concept

    same here.

    I would be surprised if Warscape can actually generate any type of city besides a town, I expect only generic Japanese castles like the forts we have in ETW.

    I still believe that Warscape unlike previous engines does not create a certain fort because its on this or that tile it only creates a fort because the game is telling it that one of the armies for this battle is in a fort, it then generates a fort with that army.

    If this is how Warscape works it could suggest that castles will look very alike, perhaps with the possibility that extra tiers will be added as you upgrade but still using a basic template. If they fit into different landscapes and are essentially unique affairs I would be delighted.

    Allthough i also suspect there will be only Castles and other Strongholds on the battlemaps,i truely hope there will be indeed more indepth infrastructures and micromanagement as well !
    But as long as the build ups and siege possibilities of the Castles are indepth(in contrast with Empire sieges) ,i could live with that!

    example of Castle siege;

    Yeh, I really missed having to pay close attention to what I could build in ETW/NTW.

    Really would like to see a more advanced city building system.

    Signed for sure, but doubt we will see it.

    Here Here!

    Honestly, it is even worse in Napoleon. There are like 3 buildings for economy and 2/3 for military. Not sure. Empire might be a bit better but nothing compares to the likes of say Medieval 2. Cmon guyssss, the buildings system is what really needs updating, bring it to the next-gen audience. Like the OP stated, the main region settlements should have all the primary buildings with schools/dedicated sanctuaries/families spread out through the city as farms etc.
