If ther so good how come they lost all there Italian lands to Rome
Hail Impetor Gauis Julius Caesar
Just a small suggestion, before the EBII animations are implemented - in EB1.2+BI hoplites(early triarii as well) overlap their shields behind the shield of their comrade to the left(see attachment, phalanx3.jpg). They should overlap the other way round(roughly presented in phalanx3inverted.jpg). The left side of every shield is arm-free and guards the neighbour on the left. The way it is right now(phalanx3.jpg) every man's shield arm is protected by his shield alone and the right neighbour's shield comes between you and your shield, creating all kinds of hell once the two phalanxes slam into one another(like for example, if his shield is driven to the right, its rim will hit your shield arm in the crook of the elbow). The other way round, presented roughly by the phalanx3inverted.jpg image is much better from defensive PoV - the left half of your right neighbour's shield is in front of your shield and lets you put your back into the frontal push, as well as letting you perform defensive moves with your shield. The vulnerable spot is transferred from your right to your left, where your shield guards you much better.
It's a small thing, I guess, but realistic![]()

I guess you're thinking more about the stereotypical legionaries of Caesar's time. The Camillan period was not like that at all. In many ways, the Roman army was still very Greek in its panoply - you basically have hoplites (triarii), theurophoroi (principes), peltasts or euzonoi (hastati) and akontistai (leves). The major difference is how the various troops are arrayed and used - rather than the hoplites forming up the main 'line', with the lighter troops in support on the flanks, you had then lined up in depth. A good book on this subject is Lendon, Soldiers and Ghosts.

Thats very sad, Atilius. No Marian or Polybian troops before first release?
And each unit now has highly detailed torsos, helmets, shields, and weapons several times over. Put in EB1 terms, we've created almost as many units as we had in the latest release of EB1. But the actual number is much smaller because of the amazing variation you'll see within a single unit.
Amazing preview!!
Do the Romans use Phrygian helmets? I thought they are rare in Rome.
Actually, a little bit.
Apologies if I sounded griping or whiney. I'm a bit of a Romanophile.
That was a great video and these units are fantastic but I'm not so sure about giving the Romans different coloured tunics, it makes them look less like an army and more like a collection of warriors. During this time there was a lot of use made of feathers and crests on helmets to recognise your fellow soldiers in the battle. I therefore wonder that having such a variety of tunics would really detract from this objective, anyway great preview.
I must draw to your attention here though, that on clicking on some of the links I am finding inappropriate content regularly displayed on the advertisement bar. I suggest that you ditch this picture hosting site Imagehost.org. I drew this to the attention of moderators some weeks ago but nothing has been done about it and I didn't get a reply.![]()
A shame, but an incremental release is to be expected, of course. The whole thing isn't going to be shiny and complete from the start. I'll just have to bide my time and wait for the Marian/Augustan units whenever they come.
Just visually, these Camillan units look nice enough that I might just tolerate both the MTW engine and the early republic. And as long as the gentes (and trait system in general) from EB1 are also present, I'm sure I'll have plenty to distract me in the meanwhile.
I wasn't expecting a second Roman update so quickly, but this is nice. χαιρε, civites.
None of the picture-hosting sites are free of problems - due to the popularity of the previews, we often have bandwith issues with Photobucket, for example. And it has to be said that 'inappropriate' is somewhat in the eye of the beholder. That said, do you have a viable alternative image hosting site?

I think he talks about that:Where do you see phrygian helmets?

Yes, actually, the Phrygian style helmet is well-attested among the Etruscans and Campanians, and as far west as the Balaeric Isles, so we included a Phrygian helmet on the equites. It is actually a direct copy of a spiked Phrygian shown on the wall of an Etruscan tomb, perhaps the Garlands tomb, though I can't recall specifically.
