Yes, he had problems with RL and it seems it occupied too much of his time but maybe one day he'll be able to continue his great work.

Awesome preview, and the video left me speechless for a second, although to be honest I was thinking "Ad triarii already?"

    A few minor whinings/legitimate issues:
Ze shields: Looking forward to them looking correct(especially in size )

    A few minor whinings/legitimate issues:
Ze shields: Why are they so plain and well, narrow? They have like no curvature at all. Was the curved shield introduced during the Marian reforms? and they're quite narrow, they either leave your whole right side open or they don't guard your left. And one other thing - there's no sense in holding the shield turned on its side. it basically provides you with the same cover as a sqare shield with the width of the scutum if you hold it like that. Sure, it's more comfortable, the grip is vertical instead of horisontal, but that small comfort won't help you when when some exhibitionistic smelly barbarian jabs a spear in your legs/groin/torso/throat. For these guys with their limited armor(and the camillian hastati had basically their tunics, with some of them having the small breastplate), the shield was their primary defensive equipment.
Other than these issues(and you may think I'm an ungrateful ass , I assure you I only want the most realistic romans), I loved the preview, the video was great(especially the equites riding in slowmo )
This is because we are still using vanilla animations. There's exactly the same problem with our celtic units, hopefully we'll fix it soon.

So will the Hastati/Triarii/Hoplites etc be using a shieldwall formation, or have you got something special planned for that?

Well, since (Greek) hoplites will be using the shield wall, I expect the Triarii will too.

Yes they (the camillan triarii) do.

About the hastati and principes, why would they have to use a shieldwall?

Nice, nice, but what about a release date? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Just kidding!! (I bet U R sick of hearing that question). Now seriously, AMAZING work guys! Two thumbs up!!! Really impressive work! These Romans look ready to kick gallic ass and burn Carthage! ( Sorry about these remarks, but they were no Boy-scouts, that's what they did). And with the non - uniformity feature of the M2TW engine these units can finally be represented properly in a TW game. Of course by the looks of it you used that feature more than admirably!!! Congratulations once more!!!

PS: I cannot imagine how awesome the polybian units are going to be! NEEEEEEERDGAAAAAAAASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Folks, this is very exciting. I really like the choices you've made concerning the units. I am curious, however, what the unit number limitations will be?

    Thank you EB team.

2 weird thinks I noticed though, is that some units seem to be barefoot and many of the soldiers, in here and other factions as well seem to be bearing their large shields almost horizontaly. I dont know if either of those detailes are intentional, but I'd like to be enlightened.

The shield position is because the new animation files still haven't been implemented. Thus we are still stuck with vainilla anims.

Yes. I don't know if we'll preview them because I doubt they'll be finished before the first release. I don't know if we'll continue to do previews between releases.

It's too early to answer that question definitively. From a purely historical point of view, the answer would be "no". By the time any province other than Latium had full citizen rights, or any province had Latin rights, all recruits were being equipped as legionaries at the expense of the state. Having said that, we would probably need to make an exception in the case of Campania during the Camillan and Polybian periods.

I should probably also mention that establishment of a full citizen or Latin government will take a long time for most provinces.

Almost all depictions of Sabellian warriors are barefoot. This includes horsemen, in spite of they fact that they would have been relatively wealthy.

Regarding shields, the curved scutum is, I believe, first attested on the Pydna monument from Delphi, though I feel like I may be blanking on something a bit earlier. The earliest sources for Roman shields show your regular thureos-type shield. So you'll get the scutum you know so well in the Polybian reforms.

    Great stuff.

Can't wait to see the other Roman armies. The Marians, and, especially, the Polybians.

Hope your next preview is of a Hellenistic faction....

Well Roman Legionaries always seem to form up in pretty tight ranks. Maybe that's just later legionaries, I don't know...

    A minor suggestion:

Can you maby add, that only the "client ruler" can build buildings and recruit units in the "Client State"?
