    Default Dynamic Cities Names [DCN] - Work in Progress -

    Hello everyone,

    After the Real Moors Project, I decided to start my second mini-mod: Dynamic Cities Names.

    The idea is that the cities' names will change according to which faction is controlling them. For example:
    - Valencia can be Valence or Balansiya
    - Jerusalem can be Al-Quds or Kudüs
    - Rome can be Roma, Rom or Rumiyya
    - Constantinople can be Istanbul or Al-Kostantiniyya
    etc...
    All according to the faction that owns the settlement.

    I think that it will enhance DLV's realism.

    I'm currently having exams... So you need to wait a little bit to get the first release.

    Any suggestions about the cities that should be included and the names will be most welcome.

    Interesting idea/mod, how about I take your exams for you so you can finish this up faster?

    Wow, nice, how many of these names can you have? Is it religion based? region based? or perhaps faction based?

    I can do Norse (Danish and norwegian city names for russia, greece, levant, iberia, northern europe, greenland, italy, bulgaria and a few citys of the moors

    Let me know if it's do-able. If it's a yes, then I'll blow the dust of the ol' book

    Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
    I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

    It is faction-based.

    Sure, it is do-able. I've already tried to give 3 names to one city (Valencia: Arabic-French-Spanish) and it worked.

    I don't know if I'm gonna finish this any soon... But it is in my to-do list so any help will be welcome.

    I noticed this mod earlier and stopped by to say how inovative it is as mods go.
    I'm just a tweaker, and can't imagine what script you are using to get the game to display dynamic like that.
    You DO this and everyone will love you for it, surely.

    This is a very good idea - I will follow it with much interest

    Would be great to get rid of the "anglicized" names of many cities, like Venice = Venezia, Milan = Milano, Cologne = Köln (this one is really nasty imo) etc.

    The Danes, I swear, with their half arsed attempts at a 'war'. You gotta give it to 'em, they just dont stop trying. Listen, I've fought the Timurids, ever heard of them? Elephants with cannons on their backs. Yea, Timurids. You guys are like kids on tricycles compared to them. -REZ

    I also like the concept of this mod; I don't make a habit of changing settlement names myself, but it is nice to have the option to rename settlements either to a historical name, or in honor of a great victory. And this mod allows the AI factions to change the face of the map...not only upgrade London into a Large Middle Eastern City, but maybe also rename it.....I don't know, something Arabic-sounding haha

    @shardrach, Cologne isn't in the game, but if you want to compile a list of faction-specific settlement names, send it my way so I can change the text file for my CdG minimod.

    TQ

    Oh, thats true, must've been thinking of Florence
    Thing is these names seem to have come of necessity for english-speakers who would not otherwise have been able to pronounce them. But they have quite different names for the people who live there, especially the Italian cities.

    Mostly for DLV the ones I can think of off the top of my head is:
    Rome -> Roma
    Milan -> Milano
    Florence -> Firenze
    Venice -> Venezia
    Naples -> Napoli
    Rhodes -> Rhodos / Ródos
    Bucharest -> București
    Vienna -> Wien
    Prague -> Praha
    Cracow -> Kraków
    Bruges -> Brugge

    I think the list goes on, this is European cities since these are the ones I know. A good candidate for dual names would for instance be Breslau (for HRE) / Wrocław (for Polish). And also Danzig / Gdańsk (if in the game, cant remember lol)

    I applaud this mod. I mean, if we can have factions named "Lietuvos Didžioji Kunigaikštystė" for historical accuracy - even though some about it - then its important we also have the city names correct!

    Indeed, such a function would be entirely in line with the whole meaning of DLV, and would surely be included in a future version if it were made stable. I just didn't think such a function was technicaly possible. Most others probably assumed the same. Please tell, what files are you modifying to make this function?

    Any progress of note?
    Perhaps a complication or roadblock?
