Default Are We Making The Same Mistake Made With Empire Or Not?...

Nice little discussion. Me personally I think that CA will be most likely making the same mistake. I saw what they "Improved" upon with Napoleon and to be frank I wasn't all that impressed.

I'd like to see new features like that supply line in NTW that was very good and probably my favourite aspect. Now with Shogun I'd like to see some sort of popularity meter and when you reach a certain level of being named Shogun other factions will take more of a shape against either friend or foe.

This hero system sounds exactly like the generals. An armour customisation and making my own clan would also be handy features to have in the game I believe.

So do you think that they're going to fail with this like in Empire or do you think it will hit a success?

What also would you like to see added?

I seriously, genuinely have high hopes for this.

They're remaking the thing that shot them to fame. They can't afford to up on this. From the info so far its sounding amazing, the concept art is showing a clear dedication to recreating the history and culture of the era as best as possible. This, coupled with the return of Jeff as the composer can only be a good thing.

I don't feel even remotely negative about this right now, and this coming from someone who yearned for a Rome 2.

You know it's not CA's fault that ETW was a flop...it was SEGA rushing them. There was so much CA wanted to put into the game that they simply werent given enough time or funds to do. SEGA realised that they couldn't fool their fans by releasing a half finished game so hopefully they will give STW2 a little more time and room for the developers.

What I can confirm (inside knowledge ^^) is that the multiplayer will have a lobby!!!

i too have very high hopes for this game. the major snags of the last two games (and i really enjoyed Empire and NTW) I think had A LOT to do with gunpowder units. returning to mostly all melee units will solve some of the battle ai issues right of the bat. CA seems to know what they are doing with melee battles.

I think both sega [being Japanese] and CA will definitely be doing all they can to make this great. Its not the most popular era etc, so that and that they started with it, surely means they have a big thang for samurais.

kinda hope for a new engine though.

Well they are reworking the AI completely so it's bound to be a new engine.

I think melee is a tipical logo for the total war series.

It is Shogun 2 Total War. They can't screw it up. They won't screw it up.

Sega don't care whether the game is set in Japan or anywhere else, all they care about is making money and releasing titles as quickly efficiently and cheaply as possible.

Shogun 2 won't be a succes ifcoastal battles aren't a mixture of naval battles and land battles.

Lol Nizam is that so crucial? I agree it would be so cool if that were possible but it really is a negligable feature even looking at the micro scheme of things.

Empire improved on a lot of what I hated about total war games:
rebel territory - every province was a nation if could be
rebuilding units - had like a trickle back similar to EU3
    diplomacy - diplomacy was improved
seemed like there were less fantasy units
    hiring generals

However it introduced some that annoyed me:
lack of provinces. France and spain were one province, I dont agree with this at all. I shouldn't have to win one battle against a city to destroy a nation. This better not be the case with shogun
unplayable nations - every nation should be playable

and of course it didn't fix a few things:
skittish AI, refuses to attack sometimes.
AI that doesn't flank or if it does not in force. Will have cavalry charge my squares that guard my flanks.

The AI wasn't that great in this. I still win most battles unless the enemy has superior units however they deploy seemingly no strategy at times which is annoying. I think if shogun takes what they learned from ETW and improves the AI we will have a fun game, however I think the fact that ETW was focused on firearms to begin with switching to mostly melee will make the AI more decisive.
    I am far more reasonable.

    My computer stopped working

Lack of discussion and instead simple attacks shows that you have been proven wrong.

From where I sit I think this is really there last chance. Screw this up and the only other incline of a way they will get their original fanbase back is by a R2TW. Now we have a Shogun 2 on the table however I wonder how they will go about the combat system. Romes combat was always more faster and bloody whereas M2TW was more slow cinematic style. I hope to see the Rome style fighting. Battles between standard Samurai to katana was always about more of a duel where you strike fast. I think this is where they need to look at the most.

I work part time in a MacDonalds.

We get fired if we don't treat customers well . We clean their tables open doors (even for people who are not physically impared), help with kids, give out free balloons, news papers, magazines and pictures with crayons to colour in.

If only CA/SEGA did all these things for us. I demand a free colouring book, balloon, newspaper and magazine with my copy of Shogun II!

I think they do care what the game is like, most people have pride in their work. I even think that they care what we say up to a point, but lets face it, if you throw a load of negativity at people then they are going to end up ignoring you.

I think we should take a different approach to CA. Maybe if we all send them a letter. That being said, the letter should contain no offensive or insulting material.

I hope they'll include the bloody co-op they promised us for Napoleon.

Still makes the veins on my forehead throb when I think about it. Promises and promises, more promises. At least let us spectate in battles, god damn it! We could fix the co-op bit ourselves then, as long as we don't have to auto-resolve every bloody battle!

The hope will die at last is a proverb that fits much with the situation here!

Until now we know only few things and climb on every word what is somewhere from CA or even Games magazines written, including the videos.
It seems, sorry to say this, that sme people switched off the brain after they know it will be Shogun 2, because being so happy and flying 2 meters above the ground in a pink cloud.

Others are more looking like this after they read it of whatever personal reason:
Beside those who agree with it, both sort of people are making the same mistake: prejudgement!

There is no reason to prejudge the game as a awesome good game beside own hopes and the dreaming look on Shogun 1 or even only because being a fan of Samurais etc. Nothing is existing that they have right, nothing!
But there is also no reason to prejudge the game as crap, only because it is not Rome 2, not loving Samurais or whatever reason. Also here is nothing existing to give them right, only the own opinion and disappointment is there existing!

Both have in my eyes to be more sceptical and and to wait for much, very much more informations about it to make any judgmenent of the game.
Sceptiness is important after the experiences we made with the last 2 games and I think this does more fit, eh?

Agreed! I don’t think it needs letters, they do read the occasional post here, so a little enthusiasm I think would go a long way to getting them pumped, and perhaps feeling more obliged to give something back.

Certainly less negativity would be a good thing imho.
