As it looks that all factions will be similar, how will you decide who to play as?
In shogun I always played as the Green clan because I liked the colour

Nobody expects the Imperial Inquisition
Uesugi, since I played as it in the original one. I gotta admit, I also played as them because of the color, but now I've just grown attached to them for other reasons.
I'll probably play as a Japanese faction.
Smart-assery aside, I'm super-pumped for Shogun 2. Although I can't say I'm looking forward to the inevitable ing about unit variety...

Most likely doing a bro-op MP campaign with Chosokabe and Kono (factions that should definitely be present, most likely as minors) after fiddling with a new PFM (provided its the same system of files).
Could someone offer a brief lowdown on the major players in this period of Japan?
Else, I guess I'll go with some faction from Hokkaido or Kyushu maybe if they are a little bit more unique.
I don't think Hokkaido is going to be on the map.
At least it wasn't in the original.
Mori was always my favourite in stw1 as I could defend if oda attacked but they were often preoccupied, which left me to conquer everything in the other direction [north I think]. Usually oda would become weakened by its powerful neighbours, and if I timed it right I could sweep through their weaker regions, leaving the stronger ones to fight the other clans.
Tended to play swapsies with regions a lot.

Uesugi just because of the way they look, its all about the looks
no its about strategy

Hopefully the map, and in effect factions, resemble this map of 1545 (the date CA's timer stopped)
i prefer lateral orientation though.

I'm going to play the faction with ninjas...
Maybe hojo. I will conduct evil experiments for fun and crazyness.

Shimazu first, just to have a nice leisurely walk up the rest of the country
To be honest... strategically the factions on the Southern island of seem to have the best position. Water keeps them isolated and focused on their immediate neighbors and away from mainland Japan. It almost works like an Ireland to England or an England to Europe. The Southern Faction can get a strong foothold on their home island, take over the smaller Island to the east and launch a two part invasion of the South, hitting the Miyoshi foothold and the Ouchi lands at the same time before pushing up north.
On the other hand this won't be like Shogun where you could create some impenetrable defenses. Invasions by sea are now possible and thus the southern position is probably not as great as in the first one.Water keeps them isolated and focused on their immediate neighbors
