Default Am I the only one that wondered...

Where all the non-White people went in Mass Effect?

    Really?

In ME1 your entire crew is White, and in ME2 only Jacob is non-White.

There are non-White characters but they are few, so little they are almost tokens...

Really look at it. The Systems Alliance is supposed to be all of humanity, there should be many more non-Whites...

Bioware is Canadian, they didn't know what non-White people look like.

They pretty much stole Jacob's face from Kanye West

is it really that much of a problem?

wouldnt it be better to just accept it instead of forcing the issue thus having the publishers add the "token face of colour" which i think is really demeaning to non-White folks.

and as they are canadians they some of the biggest liberals around when it comes to foreigners... so i dont thin its a race issue.

No, its more of a standard Sci-Fi thing. Star Wars was the same way (Family Guy made fun of that in Blue Harvest)...

But its still funny almost when you think of it.

ok fair point , but look when star wars was made

but i agree on the sci fi view to an extent, but my view to that is that most modern scifis are medium to low budget if they lucky and maybe there arent that many non white actors wanting to go low budget...?
i mean all my favourite actors of colour are primo box office clobbers...

    ....just a thought....

In reality in the far future most people will not be white, most will be asian.

Asians are not represented in Sci-fi at all though but if anything characters should have the highest chance of being indian or chinese. I can understand there being almost no white characters to a point in that white people only make up 1/4 of the population.

This is a sci-fi game where you are playing as citizen of the world, not the united states. I get annoyed in Sci-fi when everyone is white.

On Star Trek for example there are no asians at all until other than one token character on each series. Same for black people now that I think about it. Its like ok lets have all white people and 1 person white character, one black character, and let the other random ethnicity be solved by casting calls for extras.

There's Gianna Parasini, the annoying corporate guy on Feros, Captain Anderson, and some of the white characters are probably Jewish. The settlers on Feros seem to be Arab.

I see a few asian names around and i don't think Ashley is white, she looks more like a middle easterner or latina.

Remember that Humans have probably been mixing for many years now and that racism is at a low.

Personly I am more concerned about no one voicing their country of origin, I assume most are american, like in any other future earth scenario.

That is why Warhammer 40K is awesome since all ethnics are presented in Imperium. There are even a few SM chapter that are composed by Asians and Black Africans.

kaidan isnt white... neither are ashley coming to think of it.

and well, tbh, if things are going the way it goes then all ppl who will be able to afford not living in a ghetto will be white.

You have a certain mentality, a "you vs them" and i know it is hard to see, but it is only your imagination which makes up enemies everywhere. I haven't professed anything but being neutral so why Do you feel the need to defend yourself from me?. Truly What are you defending? when there is nobody attacking?

I disagree, Mass Effect seems to have one of the more realistic representations of futuristic racial makeup imo.

Multiple characters in the books are multiracial (Cpt Anderson and Hendel Mitra), its commented how there's a lot more racial blending and how blond hair and blue eyes are becoming rare.

Just look at Zaeed Massani. An arabic first name, an italian last name with a Londoner (so I've been told) accent.

Also, just from my experience, a lot if not most of the nameless human civilians seem to be darker skinned. A lot of the minor named npcs are pretty diverse too (Fai Dan, Giana Parasini, Emily Wong, Dr Michel, Lt. Girard, Khalisah Al-Jilani, Zabaleta, Vido Santiago, Donovon Hock, Maeko Matsuo, Kaidan's friend Rahna)

Compare this with Halo, where it's 500 years into the future and everyone except a few soldiers is a white North American. In the middle of AFRICA.

Edit: I always pictured Ashley as multiracial and Kaidan isn't white either.

Do you play Morrowind? Do you like old castles, ferocious hairy beasts, expansive wintry forests, and killing dark elves?

Then check out Skyrim: Home of the Nords! A mod for TES III: Morrowind.

I think a problem is that the way Mass Effect characters are skinned, it's harder to tell the differences between say, whites, Mediterranean people, Arabs, and the like.

    Also, Kaidan's girlfriend was Turkish.
