Thread: Historic Castles Project - the British Isles [v 1.2 released]

Default Historic Castles Project - the British Isles [v 1.2 released]

Let's face it: most native castles are little toy models that don't really resemble historic castles.
So I've had some fun making a few castles from history only using the items already in Warband. That's a challenge
And thought I'd offer them as resource for modders interested in Britain around the years 1066-1300
    - or to anyone kind enough to try them out and give feedback.
They're just remade native castles and castle interior and dungeons are left untouched; they don't interest me.
It's a fascinating period and so the castles are mostly Norman motte & bailey castles.
They're not exact replicas but meant to look so much alike that it's believeable.

Name: Classic Motte & Bailey Castle

    Year: circa 1066-1070.

During a siege: (3 ladders. The gate in the tower can be broken down by the player. The more attackers the more ladders will be used.
If there are only a few attackers they will all go to the central ladder):

Name: Classic Motte & Bailey Castle 2

    Year: circa 1066-1070.

During siege: (Attackers spawn by a burned down field - and if defenders sally out the fighting will take place there).

Defenders have retreated to the motte and attackers must run all the way up there).

    Name: Beaumaris Castle

    History: http://www.castlewales.com/beaumar.html
The last and largest of the castles to be built by King Edward I in Wales...

Year: circa 1330 (construction began in 1295 - and 35 years later it remained unfinished)

    Defenders sally out:

During a siege. Only one ladder. It's a *derogatory term for unpleasant woman* to besiege:

    Name: Conwy Castle

    History: http://www.castlewales.com/conwy.html

    Year: 1287

    Screenshots

Besiegers spawn - to the left:

A siege. There are two ladders (one has been pushed down by defenders) but AI will only use the closest one unless ordered otherwise.

    A theater:

    Life's but a walking shadow,
a poor player that struts and frets
his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more...

This project is now finished. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.

I don't have warband so can't help you there, but thats some nice work you did.

Awesome job! I hope to see these models in a mod at some point. It would be lots of fun to storm those castles! Keep up the good work!

I hope that there will be a way to develop those castles with stone walls later as Normans did in real...
It would be a very educational mod for england's qonquest.
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

Yup, I wouldn't take credit for other's work

    And it's now released: http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=1929
It's just native castles that have been edited, so download and drop in the sceneobj folder. That's all.
    Remember to backup.

I'm actually hoping a 'real' modder will at some point make a Normans mod.
Many mods already take place on the British Isles.

So did you texture and model any of this or just arrange the designs?

No no, I've only used native items/models to create these scenes (as mentioned, but who reads when there are so many pictures )
In some cases I've combined items in strange ways to get the look I wanted, that's all.

This must have taken a tremendous amount of time and effort. Applaud-able work! Do you have plans on mirroring this on Paradox? I think they'd love it too!

    Oh yes, why not.
I've added a new castle: Llansteffan - just a small, simple Walesian one. My next project is somewhat more... thorough

Hey Adorno, I'll go ahead and test these ingame if you'd like. They all look pretty awesome

I might be able to help with the history side of things if you really need it, though I must confess that my expertise still lies more in Romans times...

On that note though I do have a good friend who is both into Warband and medieval times, so he might be able to help too. On top of that, he is a game designer/tester himself, though I doubt he works with python or anything in Warband too much.

When it comes to history I'm interested in such things as:
    1. When were the Norman wooden castles replaced with stone - did it happen over a long time or are we talking a few years...?
    2. How did sieges take place in the early days (around 1066) Battering rams, ladders?
What was the tactic: starving/laying siege or attacking right away; multiple attack points etc.?
    3. What was in the courtyard: houses for soldiers, fields, animals...?
    4. What were the castles surrounded by: a village, fields...?

I've tried to make the scenes more 'alive' - as opposed to native castles in the middle of nowhere.

Edit: Added Beaumaris Castle - see first post.

By using the edit mode and models/items already in the game. Simple
