The problem with Simetrical's suggestion (in my opinion) is that by that point you could probably be nominated for Novus (or whatever medal would be appropriate) by the time you've served in a branch for such a long time, and making regular service medals kind of devalues the Novus.

Novus is largely worthless, since it's just given out based on who the Curia likes. Staff medals are objective measurements of how long you've served.

Actually I intentionally resigned a little over a year ago the day before I would have been eligible for a silver. ... has that changed? Does that mean that I do get a silver now?
edit--oh, and on the road to actually help in the discussion, why don't we have the artists at large insititute a tri-fecta image in tangent with the color scheme? For example--and it's probably already designed along the lines anyway--but for the moderators have the scepter the simple ball and staff that it is for bronze and silver, ramp to the spikes platinum and then add a tassle or a more gem looking head-thingee for diamond.
