Hello gents, now i'll teach you how to create a very very detailed blade via 3ds max in few easy steps... no particular skills are required..
Let's begin:
create a box with dimension 30x30x30 as you can see below
Now press F3 on Perspective view to enter wireframe mode. Once created select the box, right click and convert it to editable poly. Now via poly modifier select two parallel horizontal edges on one of the sides. as you can see below
Now click the connect button to create a new edge which connects the ones you previously selected.
Now select the new edge and the two parallel with it on that side. See below
Click the Connect dialog button, once done set the Segments to 2 and the Pinch to -50 and hit the OK button. See below
Now switch from Edge to Polygon sub-object mode, then select the two thin polys in the center of the face and extrude the selection 350 units. See below
Now repeat the extrusion, this time with only 60 units. See below
Now select the vertices highlighted. Now scale down vertically the selected vertices as shown below
Until reaching something like this (see Front view)
Move the vertex at the tip of the blade a bit forward, as in picture below
Now, select the four edges at the end of the blade, like it is shown in our picture.
Chamfer the selection 0.1 units. Result is something like this
Now convert it back to editable mesh and press F3 to remove the wireframe mode
Next step's to make a material and assign it to model. In this case i used stainless steel
THE END
