Thread: Bayonets of the Republic, 1789-1802 French retexture

Default Bayonets of the Republic, 1789-1802 French retexture

    Bayonets of the Republic,
A Realism based French Revolutionary army retexture

This simple mod will be a retexturing of the French faction to fit the uniforms
of the Revolutionary period. Everyone has been complaining about the clone
armies in ETW, and I hope to do my part to rid the game of that problem.

I'll continue to post updates as the work goes along. Currently I plan on reskinning
the whole french faction, and moving it inline with the real republican army...

Dirty, ragged, authentic and wholly unique.

more line infantry featuring one version of a regimental flag, and the newly enhanced Packs, haversacks and blanket rolls

Voltigeurs in skirmish order protecting a French Column

    New Infantry and officer model

Better detail of the ne officer and Musician

Republican infantry, voltigeurs and grenadiers intermixed after a prolongued fight with Royalists

Tirailleurs Algerians, the new African Infantry...

Petit Vieux (veteran infantry) at the battle of the Pyramides

Regiment etranger based off the uniform of the royal deux-ponts and royal liegois:

    Dragons

    Carabiners

They are wonderful! I think your flags could be a little less starched and laminated looking, rugged to suit the infantry, but really good job everywhere else.

very good, at last a proper authentic French revolutionary unit

(hint) a lot of them had their eating spoon actually pushed on their hat, behind the small cord (ganse) and tricolore cockarde (see number two)
    haha.

I would just like to say, that is the most realistic depiction of a unit so far.
As for the pic, only the center infantryman (the one you have skinned) is in his autentic outfit. The two others, the fusiler and the guard, are waring their parade dress, not their campaign uniform. It seems that alot of skinners and modders on these forums dont understand that...

    Just an observation.

    Keep up your great work!

for the unit that looks like a hobo, you could use the european citizen militia model. they already have the raggedy pants and tricorne. although i do not remember if their coat is long enough.

    Thanks for all the compliments,

    @douanier
Believe me, I tried a pipe and a spoon, but the area that I am allowed to mod around the cockade is just too small...and ince everything is mirrored on the models, its impossible to put them straight on the hat.

    @Johncage
The ideal unit to be honest, is the Republican conscript model, that France for some reason does not have. I mean they're wearing the proper style of coats, and they even have the distinctive leather casque that revolutionary troops used. However, I'm no good at replacing one model with the other. After I finish the skinning, I'll see what I can do about replacing the line infantry model with the conscript model.

so besides the french. what other "revolutionary" factions will you attempt? will you attempt any other time periods? seven years war, Napoleonic era, war of sucession?

to bad that it didnt worked about concerning the spoon
but hey, there a more worst things

also a hint is the colour they used for their striped pants.
most used combinations (also still used in later empire style)
were trousers with only red stripes, only lightblue stripes,
our combined like the one on the picture.

maybe you could ad this also as it would make more little
    diversity in the unit.

    regards

yes, your right, but for a french fusilier this was only to be seen on their pants and gaitors (this goes for napoleonic times), on campaign they wear the workpants (made from thick white line and felt over their gaitors) which were grey our white. For parade they had a woolen white pants, with black gaitors attached over the woolen pants. Their jacket (habit) was the same, also their hat.

The guard is a total different story, some of them had around five different uniforms, each for special purpose..

this is a perfect authentic picture showing a line soldier (fusilier) from the early 1800,s (in his parade outfit),
this uniform remained almost the same until 1812, after 1812 the Bardin uniform regulations came in place,
chancing almost all the army uniforms. Shako came in use around 1806, first with no chinscales (these came in use later).

Yes... I would like the uniforms to be as autentic as they could be.
Here's a picture of what a french infantry regiment would be waring (In the Napolionic period)

Guys, I appreciate the help. The osprey plates are certainly interesting, however I myself prefer to use primary documents rather than a later interpretation. I have a ton of original drawings, taken from the time period.

If any of you are interested in seeing my refrence pictures they are on the Historical research page: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=242953

Feel free to contribute to the thread, Just keep in mind that my focus is on Revolutionary France, not Napoleonic or Imperial France. In general I am skinning these units to reflect the Armee du Nord and the Armee d'italie at around 1795-6.
