    Default City To Castle

Why Constantinople can't be converted into castle?
is it because is already a large city?

Iconium have resisted better with less troops thanks to the triple wall, but every time my capital
is attacked they just break the walls and then they're in
it's hard to throw the enemies out

You'd be a fool if you'd turn Constantinople into a castle... Just protect your borders very well; Take Sophia in the North and that should serve as a castle and protect you from the North.

If you are threatened from the east, just block the roads over the sea with your navy (If you are clueless, it are two green arrows connecting Asia Minor with Greece... Somewhere close to Constantinople.

If you are threatened from the South (I had it a few times, that Venice made an amphibious invasion at South-Greece) Then you should have Corinth as a castle (and with backing up reïnforcements for if they ignore Corinth and go straight for Constantinople)

If you are threatened from the West, then you're a noob. You should have enough landmass in the West to bleed the enemy if they cross with some stacks.

Once a city has a large stone wall, you can't convert it into a castle anymore.

No just the ones with wooden walls (earlier tiers). If you think about it realistically, once stone walls they would be VERY difficult to uproot and change (though they do this when cities and/or castles are upgraded....) Anywho, make sure you keep large garrisons in cities and castles to the west of Constantinople and build lots of watchtowers. If the enemy tries to sneak past, you'll see it.

There are only two ways the Muslims can enter from Asia Minor. Both entries are right next to Constantinople and all you need to do is keep an army at either pass, keep them reinforced and you should easily keep your cities out of trouble. If you can hold Nicaeae* and grab Smyrna* and Rhodes, you should be able to attack any Muslim armies before they reach Constantinople.

If you are fighting jihads in Constantinople, it’s because you have allowed the population to become largely Muslim. You should station several priests in the province to keep your citizens faith true. Also, two or three forts placed well will isolate Constantinople on a peninsula. You want to slow a jihad, as time will defeat it for you because the jihadists will desert.

    Well that's something new...
I guess I'm just in the habit of turning every castle into a city, not the other way around

But yes, turning Constantinople into a Castle (even if you could) would be a horrible mistake, it is the largest city at the start of the game, and acts as your largest source of income.

I'd recommend placing stacks at the crossing points to meet the Jihading Islamic forces and at least slow them down, if you are create forts and hold them longer by forcing them to siege.

Is he both able, and willing?
    Then whence cometh Evil?
Is he neither willing, nor able?
    Then why call him God?
